In Other News...October 30th

I guess there was a bit of rain or something so ION is coming from me instead of Docfinger today. I will try to live up to the proper standards.

- Orcs Must Die! 2 is adding another booster pack titled "Are We There Yeti?" It will contain new maps, new traps and new variations for Endless Mode.

- Little known company Disney has purchased Lucasfilm for 4.05 billion dollars.

- Grand Theft Auto V and Dead Island: Riptide have both announced release dates/timeframes/phases of the moon. Riptide will release in April 2013 and GTAV will come out in the Spring of 2013.

- Natural Selection 2 has launched a little early, so get in there and have some FPS/RTS multiplayer fun!

I will make the bold prediction that GTA V will be delayed.

You should mention that GTAV was only announced for 360/PS3. No WiiU version.

Surprised more people aren't talking about Disney buying up Lucasfilm.

Of course, I think the success they've had since buying Marvel (or, should I say, the success they've had not mucking it up) has sort of put people's mind at ease about something like this.

And not like Disney and Star Wars haven't shared a healthy and profitable relationship over the years (Star Tours is still the best ride there).

If you mean in general, and not on this site in particular, then I agree somewhat. Everyone and everywhere seems obligated to report the news, but few seem interested in having a real discussion about it beyond the financial implications.

I don't think people really care about Star Wars that much anymore. The name still moves products (TOR), but that could be force of habit more than anything else.

I'm actually curious to know why sell now?

I figure it's because he's 68 now and he's always wanted to hand over the reins during his lifetime.

Clearly the two of you are not on Twitter. That's all anyone talked about after the news was announced yesterday.

I have lame Twitter, aka Facebook :P. However, I now realize that most of my big nerd contacts live in New York or New Jersey. They may have been preoccupied.

Because after the shame of the last three Star Wars episodes, he knows he has nothing left and better get out while the getting is good.

Lucas made the majority of his money off licensing but creativity wise he is bankrupt.

Perhaps it was the shame of Red Tales. Lucas wanted to prove that he still could make awesome films and didn't need the Star Wars name to do it. Then he made a movie that few liked and lacked even the prequel trilogy's nostalgic appeal.

I feel a bit bad for the guy. He's the mother of the most popular sci-fi universe ever and yet still widely reviled.

I'm on both, but I've been finding the conversation on Twitter more interesting than the one on Facebook, at least overall.

That makes sense. I didn't realize how old he was.
