Indeed. I didn't think it was worth a damn.

The first ED might be "gory", but the special effects were amusing. This new one looks far too realistic to be amusing, and instead hits stomach-wrenching territory, at least for me.

If the qualifier is 'being scary', then I haven't seen a horror movie in the past decade or so. But replace those with Pontypool and The Ring.

Maybe they're going for a 'gritty-realistic' look. I hear all the cool mediums are doing that nowadays.

Not a matter of "being scary" more a matter of "not being a comedy".

So Scream and Cabin in the Woods weren't horror movies either...

Cabin in the Woods definitely not. Scream tows the line a bit more as it tried to show the deconstruction while being scary where Cabin poked fun at it the entire ride.

You can have humor in your horror certainly but movies like Shaun and Tucker are straight-up comedies. I mean, I don't consider Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein to be horror either.

Cabin in the Woods brought us one of the creepiest scenarios, ever: The government (or possibly an Illuminati-like organization) actively sacrificing people to elder gods, killing them in the most painful and horrifying ways possible.

If Shaun of the Dead isn't a horror movie then I don't know what is.

If Shaun of the Dead isn't a horror movie, than neither is Dawn of the Dead.

I always thought Shaun of the Dead fell into the Scream category of movies. Semi-serious horror spoofs. Though I do like "horror deconstruction" as a term for the genre. Either way, it's a sub-genre of Horror.

I'd consider Shaun of the Dead more comedy first, horror second. Or just entirely comedy...

I doubt anything will be more terrifying than [REC] was.
