I prefer the mouse leaving the screen, myself, since I like to be able to click over to stuff on the second monitor. I mostly scroll by zooming out and in again anyway. Better to make it an option, it's not like there aren't a hundred of those.

I'm finding myself rather enjoying it so far, now that I'm getting the hang of how city building works. My first game I floundered around unsure of which improvements to build, but this time I managed to keep up with the AI long enough to wage war.

Deciding when to build improvements and when to build soldiers is difficult! It's not like Civilization when you only need units for deterence or when you're about to go to war.

I like the idea of this game but Wardell can go fuck himself in his misogynistic ass. I refuse to give that man money.

I completely forgot about that.

I'm glad this was free for me.

Yeah he is such an ass that he made the game better and gave it free to those that bought elemental.

FTFY. Besides, I wasn't complaining about the game, I was complaining about his politics and whether I want to support them by buying his games. Enchantress looks great but seriously, fuck that guy.

Sorry, I'll stop shitting on this thread now.

Me too, I'm curious.

But seriously, class action suit? I don't think there's ever been a class action suit because a game turned out shitty.

I don't know what you're talking about with regards to Wardell, but the fact that Stardock is giving away Fallen Enchantress to people who ordered the first game is pretty fucking stellar as far as customer service go. I pre-ordered WoM WAY back, so I'll also be getting the next game for free. Has there ever been another game company that has done anything like this? Usually the best you can hope for is an apology. Stardock has a customer for life in me because they've gone way above and beyond in treating me well.

Huh... well, that's enlightening. I'm not going to derail the thread by weighing in on that, but I'll stand by my comments regarding Stardock's consumer-centric attitude.

From what little I've played of Fallen Enchantress so far, it seems really good. Game Informer's review really did summarize my feelings on the races though in that Master of Magic really made them far more diverse and interesting.

My biggest hope is that modders make Fallen Enchantress a little more Master of Magicy. I've already seen a couple mods that add some less humanoid races, so I think that's great and a big step in the right direction. I still don't think I'm going to see race specific units the way Master of Magic did because Fallen Enchantress just doesn't seem to be built that way, but I still think it's going in the right direction.

I received an interesting email today:

Quote:
Dear Stardock customer,

My name is Brad Wardell. I'm the President & CEO of Stardock. Two years ago, you bought a game from us called Elemental: War of Magic. We had great hopes and ambitions for that game but, in the end, it just wasn't a very good game.

Elemental was an expensive game. You probably paid $50 or more for it. And you trusted us to deliver to you a good game. $50 is a lot of money and companies have a moral obligation to deliver what they say they're going to deliver and frankly, Stardock failed to deliver the game we said we were going to deliver.

While we did update Elemental: War of Magic (you can still download v1.4). Its design just wasn't adequate to make it into the kind of game it should be. So we decided to start over. From scratch. We made a new game called Fallen Enchantress.

So even though it's been two years, we haven't forgotten about you. This week, we released Fallen Enchantress. It is a vastly better game and, we believe, lives up to the expectations set for the original Elemental. This game is yours. Free. It's already been added to your account.

You can download and play it by going to http://download.stardock.com.

We hope you enjoy Fallen Enchantress. Please feel free to visit the Elemental forum at www.elementalgame.com if you wish to talk to me and the rest of the team. We're there and very interested in your feedback.

Thank you for being our customers and your patience.

Sincerely,
Brad Wardell
President & CEO

Not to sound like a prick, but this thread went from discussing the game/new features to just general rage pretty quickly. :-)

Those that have been playing it, any tips?

So far, I'm finding that fortress towns are really useful and specializing cities is crucial. It's also really, really important to pay attention to the resources that you're building your town on, because that's going to make an enormous difference in how it grows - they're essentially multipliers for that kind of resource.

I'm playing it, it is a lot better then the original...when you think you can win against a monster group it is not always the case

The team has also put out a spellbook with information about the current spells in the game.

You don't need to. Go to stardock.com and you can download an installer without the GS client.
