If you're playing in Classic mode a soldier has 5HP at the start of the game. If you equip them with a +10 armor they'll have 15HP in the field. If they take 9 points of damage they shouldn't be injured when they return to base, because that damage was done to the armor, not the person. The soldier would have to take over 10 points of damage before they became injured. At least that's how I understand the system. The question seems to be whether, if that soldier wearing +10 armor takes 12 points of damage, then uses enough Medkits to heal them back up to full, will they be injured when they get back to base? |

Has anyone had armor destroyed on a mission? I was sure I made 6 Skeletons, but now I apparently only have 5.

A rookie has 5 health, but can be given 10 armor. In that case, if they're dropped under 5 health at any point, they'll be injured when you get home. My guess is that "gravely wounded' means reduced under, say 1/2 their base health. It gets more complicated with soldiers gaining bonus health with levels, but I assume it always works the same. Every time I misplaced equipment, it was just stuck on a soldier in the infirmary or psi-training. Otherwise, no clue.

So, I beat the game on Normal the other day, and started up another new game - again on Normal. It may just be that I'm used to having much better equipment or something, but I tore right through Normal my first go through, but have been getting my ASS kicked this time...
I've done a bit better financially, getting satellites up and out, and I've only had one country drop out, but I think I lost 11 troops total my first playthrough, I haven't caught a live alien yet, and I've already lost 4... I still like this game a lot...there are things I wish they hadn't removed from the original, but there are things they've simplified or removed that I think are ultimately for the better. |

Finally beat it on Classic/Ironman after many ragequits. I'm particularly proud of the number of funding countries:
![]() XCOM may die, but they do not yield. No human nations fell under alien dominion.

I'm back on Classic/Ironman myself. I know I'll be fine if I can get to lasers, but damn if it isn't a pain to get there without getting flattened.

I ragequit my last Classic/Ironman after my sniper missed an 87% shot on a Thin Man, who then killed him despite high cover and panicked my assault guy, who then killed my heavy.

I'm amazed at how quickly you guys burn through these playthroughs. I'm still working on my first, and I only just researched the hyperwave thing. I can only play a couple missions of this in a sitting before getting too stressed out, and I'm not even doing ironman.
The game is fun, but too intense for me to just play it for hours at a time. |

I wish maps where totally randomized. Tired of seeing the same ones over and over.

Wow, yeah second playthrough is brutal...bad news, I had to take a fairly inexperience squad into an abduction mission. Lost all of them but my Colonel, who was gravely injured.
Good news? I took home 2 plasma rifles...I guess that counts for something... |

Beat the game on Impossible/Ironman. Somewhere between Civ4 and Civ5, Firaxis became completely unable to make even decent AIs. Granted this took longer then the 3 hours it took to beat Deity from the initial bootup while not even being aware of half the mechanics, but still, pathetic.

What all is included in the Africa bonus "All in" for the money boost? Is it just the end of month council money or does it boost other things as well. For example, I have a request for weapons right now and I was wondering if getting the "All In" bonus would increase how much money I would get.
Edit: Is there any point in deploying satellites before the end of the month? Also, is it true that there won't be any abductions in countries with satellites? Thanks

Just the end of month dosh from my experience.
Satellites reduce panic and generally have a calming effect. Whoever you abandon when it comes to forced abduction choices won't panic quite as hard when there's a satellite. That's about it. Abductions still happen all too frequently even with a full net. Gotta have that artificial difficulty somehow. |

Are we really spoilering the ending to a game with a weaker plot than Doom? If you are playing this for the story, you are doing it wrong.

Always ready!

Question about how the game progresses. If I've got a key mission coming up, say 'capture enemy type X' and I keep putting it off, does this delay the plot/story? Or will I come across the more advanced alien types and increased panic/advanced tech anyway?
Basically I'm asking if I can be cheeky and put off dealing with the plot until I've got a million satellites, and everyone kitted out in carapace armour and plasma rifles |

You can put it off. The aliens, however, will not stop developing. I put some stuff off too long in an Ironman game and ended up fighting three sectopods at once the first time I saw them.
It went poorly.
