Gordon was retired during Gotham Central. Snyder did say he used that book as his tempelate for Dark Mirror, but unlike Rucka and Brubaker he is not a crime writer, he's a horror writer. The tone is entirely different.

Still everyone should read Gotham Central.

The horror vibe works a whole lot better for a Dick Grayson story, because he's not the detective Wayne is. Really 'Dark Mirror' belongs in the pantheon. It's the perfect storm.

I was amazed Snyder was able to transition to Bruce Wayne so well. I also wish we could have seen the "other" Court of Owls book, the one starring Dick Grayson Batman.

The seeds for the court of owls was set in Gates of Gotham, so I guess he was always planned for Bruce. But it is still not as good as everyone says.

Anyone else notice the talons the Superior Spider-Man promo concepts had on his hands and big toes? This means the replacement Spidey is Miguel O'Hara/Spider-Man 2099? How is that not going to come off as retarded? That said, I really liked the 2099 Spidey book, hopefully they keep the Peter David-characterization of him intact, i.e. impatient, asshole-ish., etc.

OK, as a fan of Court of Owls, what OTHER book? What happened to it? Do we have any details what it would have been like?

This is just the way I read it and I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure muddi is talking about what Court of Owls would have been like before New 52.

I think what Deadend was saying was Snyder would have written it for Dick Grayson any way, without the reboot. I assumed that too, but after reading the first issue of Gates of Gotham, I don't think so.

Yeah, I read Gates as well, it was more about Dick learning the history of Gotham, he would be a good fit still, it would be more about having Batman and everyone else after him while he tries to prove his innocence and prevent the Night of the Owls from happening. Think back to the beginning where Bruce goes "Hey Dick, it's your blood, I know you didn't do it, cool?" and imagine if Bruce went "Hey dick, it's your blood, I gotta take you in, don't run."

Can you blame him? I mean jesus christ that issue.... that whole fucking run. If you asked me who the best writer in comics today is, I'd say Kieron Gillen, that horrible, horrible man.

Few writers have the cleverness to pull of what he just did. I think Azzarello could of done it but it would lacked that incredible charm.

It's as close to a masterpiece as we'll get in the age of the endless crossovers and constant regurgitations of every writer's childhood.

Reading it in one go is an excellent idea. There's just so many layers you'd lose track of just how clever he is when read over years.
