Jesus Christ, seriously?

...yes, seriously. Wow.

I just became real glad I didn't give that guy money. If I had, I'd be withdrawing my pledge now. That's fucking ridiculous.

100% correct. I pledge and then totally forget. KickStarter is great but other than a few warnings getting your money back from a bad rub is all on you.

The designers of the Quest for Glory series want to make a new game, with a similar mix of RPG and adventure, only a bit more on the RPG side. If they succeed, they hope to make a series of them.

I'd heard they were planning something. The Quest for Glory games were one of my favorite series.

Excited about QFG games but...I am not liking the trend of making huge pics for every reward level when you already have every reward level on the right and all the repetition. For some reason its actually harder for me to focus about what is actually going on in the KickStarter itself. Suppose it is for the visual crowd but as someone who had too much in a single KickStarter I instantly sighed.

But I am still backing

That's a shame. Decades before Mass Effect, they let you carry your save file between games. Largely it was your stats and character build while the story was pretty linear, but at the time it was impressive.

Yeah, I'm sorry to hear that, but let's be honest, they didn't even have a name/world/design until 2 weeks in. I'm sure they're going to come back when they have a really strong thing to present.

What burns me is they gave up basically the day after Blakemore decided to troll the KS. Way to give him credibility, guys.

It's unfortunate. Obsidian and inXile, both successful companies may have made it harder for non mainstream companies to survive and provide the same level of polish they are doing. Could it be that professional mainstream software companies may ruin kickstarter?

What? How would polished work ruin Kickstarter? It's not like every jackass who posted a Kickstarter was getting $1 mil plus before Project Eternity came around. If you haven't proven yourself yet, you just gotta live with smaller goals.

I'm not saying that. I'm saying it is very near impossible for the smaller companies to match these big software companies and it can come to the point people will be looking and saying...well, this isn't as good as Obsidions one they don't care. Obsidian has a staff of 125 people, not many people can match that.

The whole point of this is allowing players to support the types of games that they want to see. If big companies start providing the niche games people want to see, that's not Kickstarter being ruined, it's companies properly using it. There will always be niches for indies to fill, though.

My most recent weird experience spoiler for length

I was contacted by one of the major successes in the boardgame sphere a couple days ago after our KickStarter didn't make it. She had some good suggestions but something seemed REALLY off. A lot of "we" instead of "I" alot of "thinking" instead of doing. Very 3rd person about her KickStarter.

More Emails were exchanged and in the last email I noticed that her suggestions for reward changes smacked of expecting me to have far more money that I was able to handle. I also noticed that some severe art had been done on that particular KickStarter. Art that smacked of an employee(drawing all day company kind of thing) and not an indie, like it was presented, and its funny you CAN sometimes tell. By both volume and reading their history versus seeing what they have going.

Her last email either let it slip, or she didn't think it was wrong to say, that she didn't touch her KickStarter and her entire KickStarter and everything else had been done by a publisher.

I still don't know how I feel about that.

I wouldn't put it past some people to fake things and that was the first time where it was spelled out that what had been presented was not what had been actually occurring. A good product is coming out of it and her heart(its her game) is also coming from a particular good place. But there was a ton of misdirection going on in that KickStarter including some "poor me" posts. Or ones that sort of played on emotions that have a different feel if they are coming from people versus a company. I had pledged to them but if I had heard from her before hand I would have thought pretty hard about that.

A week or so ago I gave a shit but now I just shrug and say fuck it. When someone is offering rewards that I can't even come close to offering due to buying 10,000 of something versus me only having the leverage for 1000 I just have to deal with it and hope that what little I could pay to put things together shines through.

Since Indiegogo is so scam heavy now even the good products there can be hard to pledge to at times. So it can feel a bit offputting.

Oh also something VERY strange. I had about 30 people from successful KickStarters contact me. Some of them were great. But there was a TON of offers to help for a kickback to them. I found that weird as hell. Some hinted, some outright said so and a couple made it clear they wanted NOTHING. Which was awesome.

EDIT:
I want to add that I actually don't blame her at all, in fact she was pretty awesome. From the sounds of it they were somewhat pushed into it by the publisher or at least heavily suggested. People have to take the things that are given to them. I just don't like pretend shit. Also when you go to KickStarter school they are not really secret about some things to play on peoples emotions. They push you to play up bad news and they even have a little snippet about having secret investors that can either push you over or start your project then cancel to show..."interest". The comments about donkeys and carrots is also quit eye opening. This is all in the "Successful KickStarter" training areas so you can't really blame them. Just unique.

Got to remember they are for profit so there is nothing wrong with that. But once you make a project and start reading some of the behind the scenes details its a bit weird at times.
