Face to face I'll chat with people no problem. If we both have time to chat, and aren't actively holding up a line by doing it, I'm totally fine with that. Even on the phone, if it's someone who isn't just trying to sell me something that I don't want, I'll have a light conversation if I am not actively trying to finish the call as fast as possible to move on to other important things. But a telemarketer saying a phrase that is calculated to get them more business? Fuck them, and fuck their parasitic industry.

You've obviously never been to the UK. You don't talk to anyone in public, ever. It's the unspoken rule. Just shut up, look straight ahead and if anyone starts talking stare into nothing as intensely as you can manage until they shut up and go back to their own misery. If they persist, turn 45 degrees away from them and resume staring into the void.

Wow, the UK sounds like a miserable place.

I hate bumper sticker politics.

Two I saw today are:

Farmers feed cities
and the ever present
Support our troops

For fuck sakes...

Yes, farmer's feed cities, and cities buy your fucking products... it's not exactly like you are a charity organization are you? Even worse, I already support your lazy farming ass twice, once by buying your product, the other time with my taxes to the insane number of subsidies we pay.

As to supporting the troops... I do... it's called taxes. What more an I supposed to do? Go over and fucking reload their clips for them? I mean, this is Canada, we treat our veterans pretty fucking well( recent scandal aside ), rendering this entire bumper sticker redundant.

I despise people in shops and restaurants who don't talk to you and barely acknowledge your presence. Yes, it can be irritating if you're trying to leave and they're extended the conversation, but it's better than the ignorance that many seem to possess. I've spent enough time in retail to know that talking to customers is pretty much the only part of the job that doesn't completely suck., why the hell do they deny themselves that?

For those who don't know, the "recent scandal" was how the pension funds for veterans were ceased entirely without cause, and then the supreme court ordered the pension be reinstated, with back-pay. Then the powers that be decided that since the supreme court attached no time constraint on the reinstatement, they could take as long as they like. Six months later, the supreme court steps in again and attaches a time limit.

Aside from THAT, yeah we treat them pretty well

Because most people are not nearly as interesting as they like to think they are, with very few exceptions. People are the pits. Especially me, but especially everyone else.

Paperwork. I want a device that can read my thoughts and put it all down on paper for me. I love my job except the part where I have to regurgitate the important parts in a session. Plus, treatment plans are the biggest waste of everything.

So, you want a copy of Swank magazine then?

I'm working away on something right now, listening to a Slacker station that really likes Jane's Addiction. I am not one of those people, Jane's Addiction kinda suck.

This article cements my opinion that Gawker is a website staffed by idiots.

Among the many egregious mistakes and "WTF?" moments, the author refers to mushrooms as "the worst vegetable" and apparently didn't know what "hue and cry" meant until shortly before writing the article.

Reading that article caused me to slam my head into my desk so hard that I nearly broke my nose.

COMCAST.

My promotional rate ran out so I proceeded to sign up for a new one only to find out I'm only eligible for that promotion if I ONLY have Internet. OK, so I cancel my TV service. Website now allows me to add this bundle, but when I talk to the rep, I'm unable to upgrade because I have a "hold" on my account that requires me to return the DVR (Why the hold? You know I have it, charge me for it if I don't return it!) She is unable to simply remove that hold and let me keep the DVR, the same DVR I will need for use on the new plan. I have to return the DVR to the local office, add the new plan, then go back and pick up a new DVR. She says I have to do this to "avoid a service interruption" when my service is already interrupted BECAUSE I CANCELLED IT.

Now since I have to go wait in that damn line at the local office I figure I might as well order a cable modem so I can stop paying the lease I've been lazy in continuing to pay. Order the modem, hook it up, works on my end, great. Call to activate it, he asks about the hold on my TV SERVICE. He can't activate the modem on my Internet becuase there is a hold on the account.

tl;dr I have to return my DVR and cable modem so I can activate my new self-purchased cable modem then go back and pick up an identical model DVR after I upgrade my plan.

Will still be worth it as I'll be paying the same $80 a month as I was before for the same TV service and faster Internet (they're charging me $190 without a promotion)...but EFFING A what a pain.

Apologies to anyone who read that, I just needed a place to rant.

Not to point out you are a young whipper-snapper trying to be an old "get off my lawn" poser but...that kind of puff piece has been around in print newspapers for quite awhile or when print news was alive . Offensive? Maybe. But the Gawker "idiot" is just following what went before. Just a digital version of puff pieces before it.

My favorite part is where he uses the words "avoid mushrooms". Because you should. Because they are evil and terrible.

That's pretty much all Gawker is, and even puff pieces could have some intelligence behind them.

Well I've only been to Florida and Minnesota, maybe I just got lucky and they are the nice ones.

And I do not have a Cockney accent. Even I can't understand those guys! Every time I hear one, I just assume they're trying to sell me fruit.
