Didn't he try to hold the tesseract and it turned him into a dissolve him? Whereas Cap just stayed behind in the most pointless self sacrifice to ensure that a plane that a plane crashed, because apparently if you angle a plane down and then leave the controls it just rights itself and continues on a bombing run.
