Yea the prices are high, but what they offer is impressive. The Dell XPS 1200?, is a laptop convertible to a tablet.

Well I was referring to the model I'd like to take a stab at. You getting the actual surface should be a treat though.

I think a ATIV Note would be a bigger draw actually.

I've heard less than good things about how RT behaves in action, so I'd rather wait for an x86 Vivo Tab.

Likely though, for now at least, I'll just stick with my Touchpad.

Yeah, it's $100 less than the 32 GB iPad and has better specs outside of the screen's resolution, but I expected it to be even cheaper than it is. I can't see it making a huge impact against the well-established iPad line.

Yeah, the price is too high with such a low res screen. Thats a dissapointment for how much they want. They should just sell these at a killer loss just to get people interested and hope the app store takes off. They just dont have the track record yet. Hell the nexus 7 has a slightly better res screen and is smaller by 3 inches.

Which Surface is only $500? The prices I'm seeing are generally way over that, even entering the $1,000+ range. :/

Microsoft's 32GB Surface without the fancy cover is $499.

EDIT
You may be confusing Surface (Microsoft's line of tablets) with other Windows tablets.

There's the Surface RT, which runs only the Metro apps and is the one we're talking about, and the Surface Pro, which is going to run Windows 8 and comes out later. That's going to be more expensive.

Ah, okay. Someone earlier posted a bunch of prices, and several of them were over $1,000. I wasn't sure what exactly the differences were between all of them. I was browsing on my phone at the time, so that certainly didn't help. I guess I didn't see the $500 price.

That someone was ME!

Yes, the laptops that run a pure Windows 8 are going to be over $1000 (and were expected to be in that price range). Unfortunately, the specs still haven't been released so there is no telling how much you get for that price.

This is crazy:
Quote:
Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet, due on February 9th, will have a smaller amount of storage space than expected. A company spokesperson has confirmed to The Verge that the 64GB edition of Surface Pro will have 23GB of free storage out of the box. The 128GB model will have 83GB of free storage. It appears that the Windows 8 install, built-in apps, and a recovery partition will make up the 41GB total on the base Surface Pro model.

I can not believe that. 41 GBs of space taken up is sad.

Slap a SD card init and keep it moving.

I'm still beside myself at the price.

I was really excited when these were first announced, but over the last year I've completely lost interest.

Still excited and interested, but the issues of price (large) and storage (small) are some interesting hurdles I now have to cross.

Part of all of the space is the recovery partition. Supposedly its removable. Beside they want you to use skydrive to store your shit anyway.
