Yeah, pre-RDJ Stark is just kind of an ass.

Not that Bruce is particularly charming in his natural state either, depending on the writer. Timm/Dini Bats was a good guy. Mainline comic Bats is an even bigger ass than Tony Stark, seemingly deliberately to those whom he's supposed to care about.

RDJ Stark is a bit of a hit and miss genius though. Guy builds renewable energy system you can fit in the palm of your hand, then keeps it entirely to himself. Ass. Heck, even the large arc reactor would solve world energy problems overnight. They don't use it though because of some half cocked remark about it being a non starter or something.

If the question is whether it would be more fun to hang out with Tony Stark or Bruce Wayne there's no debate. Bruce is an act. Every moment you were hanging out with him he'd be secretly brooding inside and plotting how he was going to go out that night and beat up some thugs. Tony Stark actually enjoys being a millionaire playboy.

Especially if we're comparing RDJ Stark to Bale Bruce.
