Netbook Recommendation
So I realized that being tied to a desktop is really hurting me when I want to be writing a bunch of things.
I have not been paying attention to netbooks EVER, so I figured I'd ask you guys what's up. All it needs to be able to do is browse the internet and write text documents. I don't need disk drives, big hard drives, or USB ports. My only stipulation is that it have a real keyboard, because the tactile stimulus of typing keys is very very important to me. Also: cheap. WHAT'S UP, COG LET'S LAY DOWN SOME KNOWLEDGE

Netbooks are 2006. Ultrabooks are the new sexy.
Soon it will be Superbooks; then you can take over the world. So my advice is to just wait until you can say, "That's my computer bitch!" and slap someone with your penis. EDIT: Scratch that, just use your penis instead of a computer. Why take the circuitous route?

Netbooks have tiny keyboards that make typing hard and not fun. A low end 13 or 14 inch laptop would probably work, since you don't want it to do much. Or a tablet with a keyboard attachment, using Google docs or something?

I'd like to pay at or around a hundred bucks, but I have done exactly no research.
I also don't want a tablet because then you have to get a stand and then I have to look into stands and charging and it's a whole...thing. I guess a small laptop would work, but it's still more than what I want/need. This thing just needs to do netflix and typing.

My experience with Netbooks is that they burst into flames as soon as you sneeze. There were some decent models, but they don't seem to exist anymore. Since you are not willing to spend a lot of money, you should contact BabyJesus about his Transformer:

Though I can't comment in them, I would love to hear if anyone has experience with a Chromebook. They are supposed to be cheaper and basically instant-on. If someone is not tied to Windows and don't need a bunch of programs, could be an option.

I threw in 4GB of RAM and a hybrid SSD drive and it has been a champ over the last few years. I would still be using it if my boss hadn't handed down his kick ass Sony Vaio to me that performs on par with my desktop. Netbook was nice and I still have a special place in my heart for it (and a spot on my desk at work), but the keyboard really did kill it for long bouts of writing and the 11" screen made some work difficult. Also, the Asus battery life was no wear near the competitors, but the Ion chip at least let me play TF2 on the lowest settings. I would sell you my laptop, but shipping would be a hassle (I have shipped a lot of laptops over the border for work and it...is...painful...the amount of paperwork involved** is stupid)** because a computer has a CD-ROM, it is considered to have a laser which requires a whole set of new paperwork. That is the same model I have! Amazing little unit.
I used the video out a good deal at work when I needed a larger screen.

Get the ASUS on cheap and never look back. The small keyboard ain't so bad when you get used to it. I write mainly on a tiny keyboard.

iPad + Bluetooth Keyboard? You'll get a Tablet and more comfort for 90% of usage, and typing when you need it.
Netbook keyboards leave much to be desired, and software is usually not very well optimized for the screen dimensions to be very comfortable.

Back from E3. Boo.

If available, go for that Transformer and keyboard dock linked above. It's bigger than a netbook (more comfortable) and the battery life is bound to be better.

While the keyboards are not the best (the ASUS chiclet board being a little too squishy for my liking), I have not had an issue with screen dimension. A resolution of 1366 x 768 isn't all that irregular.

I guess they've come a way from the 1024x600 resolution they used to be, but I also find that high res screens in the dimensions of a netbook are kind of straining because everything gets so tiny if the display isn't scaled properly.

The asus had a driver years ago that allowed for a normal res on their screens. I can't remember what driver it is but I have it installed on mine.

haven't checked lately, pretty sure an ipad and keyboard is a bit more than a hundred bucks.
Not sure if you guys remember your twenties, but hundred doesn't mean "probably 220". I gotta spend that money on dates and power bills Sent from my SGH-I897 using Tapatalk 2
