I liked it too. It'd be interesting to see how much you can level up your character and how dungeon crawler-y it turns out to be. I'd be very unlikely to pick it up at full price since I have Ragnarok Odyssey already and that's hitting the PSO spot quite nicely.

Yeah, RO seems like it'll scratch that itch, I'm trying to find a way to pick it up when it comes out in the US in 3 1/2 weeks. I've been watching gameplay videos online and it looks great.

I ended up not enjoying the SH: Book of Memories demo, unfortunately. I had to force myself to slog all the way through it. I can't see picking it up for full, or even half-price, especially with Ragnarok Odyssey on the way.

There's a really good, in depth post on the PlayStation Blog from XSEED going over the card and class system in Ragnarok Odyssey. They also responded to 46 comments with answers, so there's a lot more information than just what's in the initial post. A good read if you're interested in the game.

Kotaku has an article up giving a mini review of each of the PlayStation Mobile launch games. They're better than I gave them credit for.

Anyone else notice that all the square Enix ps1 titles and xenogears titles are now all available for direct download onto your vita from the shop? Because I sure did.

Never played xenogears. What's the big deal? Why's it so popular? Will it hold up under non-nostalgic scrutiny?

All but Final Fantasy V.

Xenogears is awesome. Great story, great music, unique battle system. I'd say it holds up so long as you go into it with the expectation that it's an RPG that came out in 1998. I think the most damning thing you can say about it is that the text scrolls a bit slowly for some people. But if you enjoy JRPGs of that era it's easily among the best.

Of course, I'm a bit biased. I bought it the day of release and have played through it about 4 times since.

In my opinion, Xenogears is a rare RPG, especially of that era, with a genuinely good, well written story. The music is also excellent. However, as Gorvi mentioned, the pacing (and hence the dialog scrolling) is VERY deliberate, and can drive some people nuts.

Furthermore, the second disc is a poster child for showing explicitly what happens when a development team runs out of time and money. There is much anger over the second disc. It's still one of my favorite games, but it's not without flaws.

I loved it, but it's kind of quirky and very slow paced. Plus the last part of the game is just reading blocks of text. Still great music, unique setting.

I'm not sure it would hold up these days. I still have my PS1 copy but haven't tried to play it in a LONG time.

Most are $10 which is double the usual price of PS1 games. Threads of Fate is $5 though.

$10 is less than I expected, although that does seem a bit steep for a PS1 game. It's Square though, so no one should be surprised. At least they are finally available.

By the way, I know I don't have a Vita, but I follow this thread so I can see what you guys are playing on it. It's a slick little system from what I've seen.

Edit - I like that it's mostly the same people that post in the WeekDay/WeekEnd threads.

Well, I did get FF7 discounted to $5-6 on a Square sale not so long ago. So if you're patient you can get them cheaper. Also, I think $5 for 90% of PS1 games and $10 for the rest blows away Nintendo's Virtual Console pricing of $5 for NES games (geh) and $8 for SNES games.

I really wish I played FF7 when I was a kid so I could get nostalgia boners every time it goes on sale on another platform.

I'm the same with transformers. Never watched it. Don't see the appeal. I've only ever seen the animated movie, none of the live action ones.

Xenogears & the FF games are nice but Vagrant Story is where it's at.

See, I DID try vagrant story. Got like six hours in and it was only okay, I recall. Wouldn't buy it.

Parasite Eve is a classic, though.

Anyone played threads of fate?

I was a PC gamer at the time FF7 came out, and saw its popularity as the beginning of the dumbification of a genre I grew up on and loved.

I wasn't wrong.
