If someone could give my wife a invite into the guild, I would appreciate it.
The account name is Mrsgypsy. She has been playing more than me lately. Ive got another two weeks of travel coming up :-[ I really need to find the time to start pricing laptops.

I can do that, but I need the four numbers that come after the account name... (I really wish they would let you leave those off if there is only one person using the account name.)

I got a fair amount of 80 gear at this point (Rare and Exotic) and look like a wealthy version of The Rocketeer, which is awesome. I'm taking a break from trying to find a group for dungeons by trying for map completion. At about 68% which seems like a good ways through though I'm finding it takes a good day of playing to get, like, 2%, so I have a feeling I'll be at that for a while.
After I finish that leg of my journey, perhaps I'll start dipping my toe into WvW. And dungeons. Only run 2 dungeons so far since they refuse to incorporate a LFG tool. Is it sad that I have no alts whatsoever?

I ended up only using alts for crafting. One did make it to level 25 solely by maxxing her two skills though.
The game's designed well to allow for alt-itis, but really encourage fully exploring the world with your main character. I finished the world completion the other day, and while the reward was underwhelming (an ingredient for forging legendaries, which only exist for lifers), I had a lot of fun getting there.

I was waiting for that fix to try out an engineer. Through my own crafting I'm now in a full set of exotics on my Warrior. I look supes dumb (Draconic set), but even without any runes on it, I can be quite the beast in WvW. Except that one time when a lone daggers-Theif killed three of us in a fair fight...what's up with that?
I wish there was another way to get the dungeon sets, hell make them like 150k karma a piece, something that won't upset the people that like grinding dungeons, but that make them accessible to people that like to play WvW. I bought your PvP game to play PvP guys ![]() Outside of cultural weapons (just for the skin) and the occasional siege blueprint, it seems like after you get a nice set of gear karma will just start to pile up. Is there a huge karma sink I'm missing? Last edited by digitalErich; 10-03-2012 at 11:37 AM. |

A legendary weapon requires about 500k in karma costs.

You know, I actually had written "besides some legendary thing" but then took it out since I wasn't 100% certain there was karma associated with making one. Like someone earlier said though, Legendarys are for lifers. I can't see myself every creating one, no matter how much I play this game. Even if I did, I play a class where I weapon swap constantly so it would be less of a boost to me than for other classes.
It would be nice if they made karma BoA. The Norn cultural weapons are kind of ugly, but being able to buy them for an alt would be nice, the humans have some good looking stuff. I guess I could always use the karma vendors and TP to convert it to gold. I'll have to check if the karma-bought legendary mats are soulbound or not. If not, that might be a good way to convert karma to gold soon. Last edited by digitalErich; 10-03-2012 at 12:10 PM. |

Like you said, once you are geared the karma and gold does just pile up. You have the option of basically only spending gold/karma on WvWvW and gear... or just saving it. I can do 20-40k a day just doing wuvwuv (unless we're getting rolled) and average like 75s per lvl 80 dungeon run. I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a while down the line you might have enough for a legendary.
Also you cannot convert karma into any meaningful amount of gold. That exploit and the cooking mats were changed basically because karma is supposed to be completely separate. I figure now that I'm exotic'ed out its basically dressing my char up to look pretty and collecting other exotic sets only for stat/build flexbility or like an MF build. I don't really care about that much so my gold/karma has just been piling up. I've been spending tons more on WvWvW than I ever expected (though we're losing bad on my server now.. so not so much lately). It's kind of awesome. I know some people hate that there is no further upgrade path.. but I love it. I can accumulate wealth and just have fun. And when WvWvW is competitive, it is some of the best fun I've ever had in a game. The sPVP system is what the WoW arena system always should have been. Getting matched in that game against players that were not good, but had simply played forever to accumulate enough points to buy good gear was damned frustrating. Equal gear and it all comes down to skill. As to the dungeon thing, hang out and recruit in Lion's Arch for groups. It's really not that bad. I've had almost entirely good experiences in pug dungeon groups. People are learning how to play the game effectively and pug quality has gone up quite a bit. Remember to run each path of a dungeon once each day to gear up as quick as possible. I'd advise not limiting yourself to one dungeon set and farming one unless you're in love with the models. You can very easily sub out gloves/boots/helmet in different sets without making your toon look silly. I will say though that all dungeon pieces should have equal badge cost. They have equal karma cost and gold cost.. why should you need like 300 badges for a chest piece and 180 for boots? |

That sounds like a holdover from WoW design philosophy... and I'm not sure why they did that, either.

Still, I'm not going to complain too loudly when a game this massive can leave me still wanting more.

It's not the players that turn me off about dungeons. I just don't find them particularly fun, for me at least when compared to the rest of the game. They are too grindy for what amounts to, admittedly cool looking, skin swaps.
They are still fun, but not as fun as WvW for me and the way I see it time spent in dungeons for me is just time spent trying to look cool in the mode I really want to be playing, so I'll just play the fun mode and look lame. |

I don't really have any alts, either. My sylvari ranger is still sitting at 1. I tend to find something I'm into and stick with it.
Of course, that probably plays into why I've found crafting such a grind. I've only really made one pass at any category of materials. Edit: Took weaponsmithing from 126 to 400 today. It took a few coins, but it wasn't quite as painful as I expected. Of course, now I see how expensive the exotic recipes are. I suppose I need to look up the raw materials needed to make a given weapon so I have a farming checklist for myself. Last edited by Vigil80; 10-04-2012 at 03:37 PM. |

The main components of exotics seem to be other exotics? Or at least the orbs you sometimes get from salvaging them, or rares. Haven't quite figured that out myself yet, presumably the only way to get them short of trade posting is just farm mobs and hope for yellow drops?
