1) You get to play as the other side, which adds a little bit of interesting backstory. 2) You get to use Selvaria's gun (the Ruhm?) which is a ridiculously overpowered machine gun that has the range of a sniper gun. |

VC's DLC has been my only PS3 DLC purchase, and I have to agree that it's damned good.

Turns out perfection needs to play this game. Not a person. A fucking invisible enemy? Really. Starting to get sick of JRPGs.

Spent all night on one battle and still stuck. So I was and still am a bit pissed. Going up against the enemy general in his monster tank and his invincible female side kick. The tank is hard enough and then she comes in and basically smokes all of my guys. She is tougher than the huge tank. Up until now I have been able to keep my people alive. I am certain I won't make it through this battle without a ton of casualties. That is why I am pissed. I'd like to keep the team alive for the whole game. I guess not. And I am not a fan of this God like enemy on the battlefield.
The last few jRPGs I have played have a huge spike in difficulty at certain points. Not sure what that is all about. |

I got through that fight with zero casualties. And not (just
) because I'm some gaming phenom, either. It's very doable. I'm pretty sure they tell you during that fight to keep your people away from her. Your own tank and your lancers are blasting the mega-tank's turrets. All your other troops should be showing asses and elbows once Selvaria shows up. Last edited by Vigil80; 10-06-2012 at 09:07 AM. |

I lost one guy in that fight, and probably did start over a few times before that.
If you aren't using in-battle saves, use 'em. At least to save at a point before Selvaria shows up, so you have the option to start over there or at the beginning of the level. Save every turn, if you want, so long as you don't screw yourself by overwriting your pre-battle save. I remember wasting some turns just not hitting the right pieces on the tank, or hitting them at the wrong times. Cover cover cover. As I remember it, a bunch of my units were hiding out behind pieces of the environment (just north of the last leg of the tank's path), while I tried to get shots at the tank in with my lancers. The one lancer that died ran out of turns before getting back to cover (in the southwest corner of the map). And it was a wide-open area, where Selvaria could mow down rescue attempts. Everyone else I was able to get to before they died. It is a difficult level, if only because it's so different from everything else up to this point, so you have to try different tactics. I wouldn't worry about trying to make it through without any casualties, or with an A rank. (Your list of available units does grow as the game progresses.) That said, if it had been Vyse, Aika or Marina who died, I'd be reloading a save. And remember, the storyline characters can't perma-die in battle.

You can also 'rescue' downed soldiers with a medic (or Order). The first giant tank battle is a bit of a pain but with a little planning you can pull it off. I strongly recommend bringing a BUNCH of lancers to take out turrets ASAP and using your tank to screen your units from Selvaria.

Thanks for the tips. I never thought to use my tank as cover for my lancers.

Got through that crazy battle and then some. Been using my tank as a shield ever since. I'm at the battle where Is makes the smoke bombs.

Just wrapped up a battle with the war witch. That battle was insane and I am surprised that everyone survived it. It was a battle where I was saving every turn because the slightest misstep was an insta-kill. Kind of glad she died and took the general out with her. That is the only battle where I almost hit the 20 turn limit. I was worried I would almost get her and then hit that ending the mission. I thought it was nice that the starting point was under fire and I lost half of my team just running for cover. And now I have to fight some sort of land battleship. This game is starting to jump the jRPG shark. I'm guessing the end guy will somehow transform into some giant mech.

The story jumps, but the gameplay tries to stay fresh and entertaining. It's as close to a flawless game as we've had this gen, in my book.

To know that I was doing things extremely slowly and that I was gonna be punished for it, that was a downer. Still loved it, and just scout rushed skirmishes to make up the difference, but it killed the flow for me, to need to go off and do a skirmish every level. |

OK, no more messing around. I've had this game for years and still haven't played past chapter 7. I'm pulling it out tonight and giving it the time it deserves.
