I've been reading your comments on the game, I wondered when you would just give up on it. I don't know, the comments i'm reading from those even who are enjoying it, the game isn't the same as the first time around. I can't say what is since I didn't play enough of the first but the "like" talk is less like than I remember from the first game.

Last night I ended up playing more Xenoblade than expected.

And more FTL. As always, that game is an emotional fucking rollercoaster. I defeated the first stage of the rebel flagship again, but I knew I was screwed because I did it with only one point left in my hull, and no way to repair. On the upside, this time around I managed to unlock the alternate layout for the default cruiser. I played around with it for a few seconds, and as expected it's already interesting.

Gotta hand it to these people. They know how to make a game that really pisses me off yet keeps me coming back.

I was feeling that way about Borderlands 2 for a good portion of that first week with it. Now it has somehow sunken its claws into me now. I blame my lovely little turret and the fact that I was able to get to Sanctuary a lot faster. That first chunk of the game is sooooo badly paced.

Here's a few more pics of my kid. I think he's channeling Bruce Campbell...

Heh. I got the No Redshirts achievement last night. Everyone managed to survive to the final sector no problem. Woo!

Well I gave it more time than many games I have finished, I got to the main city and did some stuff there. But to say that Sanctuary is a major disappointment is an understatement.

Really it just doesn't feel like the game has any life that's all.

Dragon's Dogma. I missed a quest again really early on, so no Platinum trophy for me any time soon. Instead of annoyed, though, I feel better. Now I can just grind this drake for dragonforged gear and go after the Ur-Dragon in peace, quests be damned.

Also playing "Is XCOM out yet."

It's a bit of an odd game. I can totally understand why Karak would give up on it. It's not that it's bad, per se. It's just a little... stale. Yeah, stale would be a good word for it. At least in the early goings.

Calling it Borderlands, Too is pretty accurate in a lot of ways. It doesn't have the novelty of the original and hews a little too closely to the first game in many respects, but that's not all bad. It just takes a while to sink its hooks into you.

I think it also depends what class you pick. I started with the GunZerker and after getting to the outskirts of Sanctuary, I was done with him. It was not a fun class to play. Now the commando... I love playing as him. Anything that gives me a supplemental mode of attack makes me happy.

I'm enjoying the hell out of it. It's bigger, better, and more challenging than the first game, and I'm glad to have it.

Last night I played, and spent an hour just wandering around a zone hunting loot, not on any quest, because there was a whole two thirds of an area they'd just put in there for players to explore. What had looked like background on my first trip was actually visitable, and suddenly I was climbing on beached ships and icy cliffs hunting for more loot and stuff to kill.

That kind of thing is exactly what the first game was missing, and what Diablo clones in general often miss.

Ya you wrote this better than I could. So blah. They really called it in when it comes to the enemies and more importantly the enviroments. I know that BL1 never was known for good enviroments but my god man. You should improve them somewhat. It also offers less than many other games expansions but it calls itself a sequel. Weirdness. I didn't hear Borderlands Too. But man so fitting.

I think if there weren't other better games released right in the same timespan I might have spent more time. But random gun number 5509 with a purple clip...isn't game design...its random generator program design if you don't actually have an actual game underneath it.

This is the sentiment that i've been reading. It's not an awful game...just as Karak said... soulless which really surprised me. I just don't for the most part see the same enthusiasm as I did for the first game. There are exceptions (MMP, J) but i'm just seeing a lot of "yeah I like it but...", just my 2 cents and an observation i've been seeing. Please keep the torches and pitchforks at home. No one will ever confuse you with someone who goes full on mainstream. I do find that part of your charm though

I know there are plenty of people enjoying it (I lurk in the B2 thread) I just don't get the sense of OMGZ as I saw in the first game. Part of this is being a sequel but I just feel something is off. Maybe i'm just channeling Mags cynicism since now he's gone all happy Gnome on us.

Finally got a chance to play Donkey Kong Country Returns with my son and man, that is a great game. I completely overlooked it since it was a Wii game but now that I can play these Wii games in HD on my PC they look amazing. Heck, if I knew games would look this clean and crisp on a Wii U I would think about getting one eventually (though I doubt they will, though time will tell). The ability to map waggle to a physical button is AWESOME and eliminates some of the criticisms of many Wii games (like Donkey Kong for instance).

The biggest travesty of the Wii U is the lack of upscaling of Wii games, as those folks without access to a decent PC will never know the wonder of how good they can look (until they buy the HD remakes anyway...).

Only bad thing about Donkey Kong (well, for my 3 year old son anyway) is that he'll never be able to progress far into the game until he gets older or gets better. The game is pretty challenging in some areas even for seasoned folks. I think that is awesome.

I'd also add that if you read the respectable reviews, like Rock Paper Shotgun's for instance, they'll point out that the game does take a bit to pick up.

I'm still enjoying it. Calling it "Borderlands, Too" is hardly an insult, considering Borderlands 1 is one of the greatest games ever made. It's even a Lister. Even if it is just "more of the same" that's like complaining about getting "more of the same" filet mignon with glace of foie gras and duck fat fries. It says more about the jaded demands of the complainer than the quality of the product.

My only complaints are performance, and the larger zones meaning that aggravatingly stingy inventory space is all the more frustrating than it used to be. And it being really fuckin' hard compared to the first game. I'm dying a lot more than I remember.

As much as my legendary hate for the Wiimote is, DKR really needs to be played with a Wiithingee. I just think that is part of the challenge and made for the wiithingee. That game is hard. Not impossible, but it's very challenging. If you want to raise a hardcore gamer, it's a good starting point. then let him play Contra and tie one hand behind his back. I know there will be now game pussies in your home

Soulless is probably the main issue I have. And also the ease of the game I watched the entire first half of Shogun while playing it with the sound off on the hardest difficulty and died 1 time. Now admittedly there are a ton of patching bugs and so forth that they can patch out "the stair glitch" being one specific one. These pathing glitches make enemies completely broken and you can kill them without any danger at all.
Hopefully they will patch that simple because I can't force myself to pretend that glitch doesn't exist. The enemies have a horrid habit of standing around or running straight at you and headshots are ballz easy. Almost stupidly so.

But it needed to offer far more than the same as a pretty average game originally. It sort of had the chance to knock it out of the park and as has been pointed out countless times they stumble tremendously out of the starting blocks. When they are doing so little to improve the past that's almost unforgivable. This is the a-typical sequel that doesn't do what many sequels should attempt to do and that is try to change and improve.
Instead it does what an expansion does. If they released this at 15.00 and as an expansion and patched the issues out it would be worth it for sure.

My own game playing so far, the obsession for Sleeping Dogs is winding down. I nabbed two more achievements (thanks Wolfie). One to go. I thought unlocking the last move for the Triad would be the easy one. Nope. Redoing missions (even with Wolfie's advice) is going slooooow. Not getting much xp for them. This is going to take a while. It's time to play this one in the background as i finally (for real) move on. I think it was easier to move on from ME1 for me.

I think the only thing DKR does with the Wiimote is shake to smash things, right? I used the 360's bumpers or triggers to do that. I don't think I've seen another use for the waggle. Even the game tells you to turn it sideways like NSMB Wii (another game I mapped waggle out of) to mimic a real controller.

I am hooked to this game right now. I was going to play Darksiders 2 but here I am stuck on this one.

My son left for the night with my parents, took all his Mario plushies and K'nex figures. He is hooked on everything Mario. I'm proud, even though I've lost a lot of interest in modern Nintendo. I bought a Mario cartoon DVD at Target last night for $5 with the Super Show, Mario 3 and Super Mario World cartoons on it (super nostalgic for me) and my son and daughter sat in the playroom watching it while eating dinner last night. Good times. I still love those shows.

See, I am eating crow now. My son plays more games than I do, and my daughter loves to watch my son play. I'll wind up with two gamers for sure at this rate.

And now I am back to Sherlock Holmes. Man that is a stellar game.

Also this is me when I found out that they were trying to make another ME game.

I do like this. I wandered off across most of the map in that area too and was hopping on the ships and such. I also scoured a lot of the area outside of Sanctuary yesterday.

I'm a little annoyed that I wasted one of my two golden keys when I got to Sanctuary. I didn't realize that the chest I was opening was that special magic chest with the goodies that scale according to your level and I opened it at level 9. I did get a couple great grenade mods, but I was miffed.

It doesn't upscale? Seriously? Sheesh. I'd be tempted to get one sooner than later if only for this. I'm too lazy to bother with Dolphin emulation right now. Grr.
