New rig arrived and was a fucking breeze to set up. Was playing Borderlands 2 within an hour with all settings on max. So nice to have something current to play FPS games on, and to enjoy some of the perks of high-end PC gaming.

Now I just need to drip some games that I already own out of my wallet over the coming months: Skyrim, BF3, etc.

In many ways, it certainly is. It's also a bitch to code for from what I've heard, though it's not nearly as bad now as it was several years ago as there are lots of tools in place now.

The thing is, ME1 in its original form would not play nicely with the PS3 on a code level. It was janky enough on the 360/PC.

Do they have KitKats down your way? I always thought that they were some of the mythical Canadian Candy Bars that you guys lust after and we think are passé.

I don't know what is going on this week. It's like with my wife gone, I've lost whatever it is that keeps me up until 1-2am. I was passing out playing Borderlands 2 (and this is not an indictment of the game!) at around 10pm and I think I was snoring before my head hit the pillow at 11pm.

So this is what 8 hours or so of sleep feels like. Interesting...

Tonight it's our last day of freedom, so the kids and I are having a pizza party and watching The Avengers. Just for fun, I should switch up the discs and watch Emma Peel strut across the screen instead of Black Widow.

Kitkats are awesome. They aren't that popular in the states. But I have eaten one in three continents.

Japanese grocery stores understand Kit Kats, with their dozens of seasonal flavors. The original is still the best, though.

Don't get me wrong, I expect it to pick up. After all, it's BioWare, and they have a pedigree of awesome games, Baldur's Gate I and II and KOTOR especially. I've played thoroughly through Dragon Age: Origins, and that game world was pretty generic. Fun game though. And honestly, there are plenty of awesome games out there that follow cliches closely. It's all the attention to detail that makes a game great, and these guys tend to be good at those little details.
The Citadel in the beginning is awful. It took me the third time to try the game and that was only because I spoke to Karak about the game in Gtalk. He convinced me to try it again. But that damn beginning loses so many people. ME 2 & 3 are much better for the beginning play.

It's like you say, a game could have the typical genre cliches but depends what the game does with them. I thought they gave them enough twists through the various characters you interact with. What I really liked about ME1 was the side quests. They are repetitive, it does seem like the same three types of environments you interact with after awhile. But the oddity of some of the conclusions of those missions, the files found or what was going on at some of the far away places hooked me. For me it was interesting background to the larger gaming events. And I loved the Mako. Most hate the thing. I loved exploring with the Mako.

The game(s) have lots of flaws most likely agreed upon is ME1 and ME3. I found myself immersed in the setting in ME1 so I ignored the flaws. This happened much due to the odd little side missions you go on if you choose. Are they epic? No. Odd, flawed and certainly cheesy/odd yes. I couldn't get enough of that. Now I want to play ME1 again.

Oh god... I just found out that my copy of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne is way more rare than I previously believed.

Also, I forced myself to play through Mass Effect before starting the second game. It blows ass. The second one trounces it on every level, including story. The jump in quality in terms of game design between the first two games is absurd. Don't believe the hype.

Cell is, GPU isn't.
Its a wash technically. They also have some criminally stupid decisions inside that box like the memory availability to some of its PSU's. The best decision they made this ENTIRE gen was to drop cell like a rock and go back to a CPU/GPU hybrid like everyone else.

Me1 doesn't lend itself very easily to those who aren't really invested only after you start really exploring the citadel and only IF you also read and listen to conversations does it come out.

Hey if you never want to get ME1 just go to google and time in masseffect1moviedeathmule.torrent. An editor took it upon himself to film all of ME1 as a movie with edits and so forth. Its about 6-8 hours long but its super enjoyable...to me at least.

@Santa. Ya the kitkat pizza hut combo is real...but not here.

As for Kitkat's if I am reading peoples responses it doesn't seem like many people have Kitkats around them? Odd its highly popular on the west coast. I see more Kitkat commercials than any candybar now.

Plenty of Kitkats in Kentucky. I used to see advertisements for them on TV all the time.

Awesome! Man they are delicious. I am not so sure I would take the plunge into the Pizza Hut fried Kitkat territory...but I don't think I would have to be pushed to hard to at least try.

I don't understand this dearth of Kit Kats...they're fucking everywhere. I've lived Northeast, Southeast, South U.S....they're everywhere. They're popular in the States, believe me. And they enjoy front placement at most cashier lane candy displays.

I mean, we're not talking about Cadbury Flakes here, people.

You made me curious, so I went and looked at what they had at amazon and ebay. Wow. I didn't expect that at all either.

Then again, it's like I say all the time with my video game collection - the games I have that I'd be willing to sell aren't worth crap, and the games I have that are worth decent money, I'd almost never be willing to sell.

That was a cute little game. Shame the whole series is dead.

Yeah, I'm not sure where muddi gets his info about the U.S. from, but Kit Kats are all over the place here too.

Wanted to do: Get lots of reading and homework done.
What I did: Spent all morning trying to fix fridge. It's stopped cooling completely, and we don't really have money to get it repaired... and especially not replaced. I've summarized the first half of my repair adventure in this image:

The second half of my adventure, which is on going, began with diagnosing the next error (faulty evaporator fan). Had to buy a multimeter from the creepy redneck hardware store on the corner so I could figure out what had failed where. Now I've got to find someone that sells a replacement. Hopefully it's more of a universal piece, because this was a donated fridge and it's just ancient. If it's a particular piece, it may not exist anymore.

Hopefully that'll carry over to WWF. I think I've got a 90% win record against you in that.

OTOH, ADD and Trogs are brutal.

So I've been absent from this thread (anyone notice?) because I was all about BL2, which is all I've been really playing aside from Unchained Blades (which has the weirdest difficulty curve ever).

In recent irritating news, my Kobo Vox tablet appears to have gone kaput. The device shows as charging, but won't turn on. Luckily, the Kobo people say they're going ot replace it, but still, irritated.

Maybe I can convince them to let me buy an upgrade to a Kobo Arc.

I don't know what it is about WWF, but I just suck.

The worst thing is that I lose constantly to my dad, who, prior to him getting a smartphone and being dragged kicking and screaming into the digital age, I was convinced was illiterate. Sigh.

It also doesn't help that I just get awful, awful letters. Or that I'll play a word and immediately spot the one that I could have played on a triple word score. Double sigh.

So I finished a meeting and got some lunch in my belly but I'm feeling pretty craptacular. I feel like I should stick around here at work for a while longer, if only to meet the staff and make them realize that I'm not a ghost (it's a new team and I've only met them once at a team meeting) but if this headache gets much worse, I'm heading home.

I've got an Avengers Pizza Party with my kids tonight that I want to be in good shape for! Whee!

In I doubt anyone cares but me news, I found that there is indeed a soundtrack for the PSP version of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment. I couldn't find it on Play-Asia (and had trouble finding it on google, for that matter) because it's not listed under Persona, but as "2 Batsu Eternal Punishment. Original Soundtrack." I finally found it by searching for "Batsu." This is odd because their PSP version of the game doesn't have "batsu" anywhere in the title, and their version of the Innocent Sin soundtrack does have "Persona" in the title, but not "Tsumi" ("Tsumi" and "Batsu" are the Japanese subtitles of the corresponding games).

So, while every day that passes I get less and less hopeful that Atlus will announce a localization, I can at least get the soundtrack. The Innocent Sin soundtrack was definitely worth it, so I expect similar from this. I think I have to get the P4Golden soundtrack while I'm here, since we're not getting a soundtrack pack-in at all.

Going to a churrascaria restaurant tonight. It's a South American-style buffet in which they walk around the restaurant with a dozen different baseball bat-sized skewers of steaks, lamb, and chicken. It's good stuff, too. Not the fatty, chewy stuff you settle for at a regular buffet.

You get a little token with two different colored sides to signal whether or not you're ready for more steak. Glorious.

Got to the level cap in Guild Wars 2, which means the real game begins. Unlocked a few animals in Tokyo Jungle, or The Discovery Channel Rogue-Like. And fired up some PS2 Harvest Moon for giggles.
