This. I was just talking to someone about this, and we both agreed that if you have owned any phone before, when did your phone not get a mark on it at some point. I'm pretty sure when someone got a mark on their dumbphone, they didn't go screaming at the manufacturer then. Oh well, people need things to complain about I guess.

In other news, so many app updates. And for those that care, FIFA 13 came out yesterday, optimized for the iPhone 5 (not letterboxed). Looks great, haven't had a lot of time to play it yet though. Also, it's universal this time, so no purchasing the iPhone and iPad versions separately (plus it has iCloud syncing for playing your season on both devices).

They didn't pay 700 dollars(with contract) with their dumb phones. Paying so much money and expecting something that looks new is not that far-fetched. But the HTC One X had the same issue, which used similar materials.

The One X is made out of plastic. I get your point though. And I get their complaints when the phone is brand new out of the box. If it had a chip or scratch or something then, I'd be angry. But once you have started using it, that's life.

But really, every phone, every thing that you use often is going to show signs of wear. Cars get dings and paint chips from use. Watches wear and can get marked. On and on. If you don't like it, don't use it. Keep it in a case or get a screen protector. Fix it, don't bitch about it.

I meant the One S. The One X is made of Polycarbonate, a vastly superior material.

I doubt I'll ever pay full price for a new car with dings and scratches, even minor ones.

despite Apple's insistence that its tolerances are measured in microns, several iPhone 5 owners are reporting that their new devices are arriving with a variety of scuffs and scrapes out of the box (myself included, pictured above).

Oh yeah, I think I forgot to say that if it came out of the box with scratches or other imperfections, I'd complain too. But once it is used, you've lost the right to complain in my eyes.

I had a One X and a Lumia 900, the plastic bodies (nice plastic, mind you) are great. Light, nice feeling, and didn't show much in the way of marks. Though the white One X would show dirt easily. I had the black Lumia, that just looked good.

Christ, I had to look at those photo's, then look at my phone to see what the hell it was I was supposed to be enraged about. Some of those 'scuffs' are less than a milometer in size.
Maybe it's just me, but even if mine turned up in the box with a mark like that, I'd just shrug it off. The level of frenzy had me thinking these things were turning up with inch long gashes dug right along the case.

Polycarbonate is what CD/DVDs/BluRays are made of, and I think also some of the 'glass' screens on smartphones.

Got my iPhone 5 yesterday. Upgraded from the 3GS so big jump. Gotta admit, it isn't as exciting to have it since I already have an iPad.

So I've got a question: Wireless Sync...what's the deal?

This feature seems pointless if I have to plug it in to a charger first before I can start syncing.

I don't want to get up, walk two feet, and plug it in. I just want to hold the phone in my hand and click, "Sync" and continue to do whatever else on the phone. Am I doing something wrong?

You have to enable the switch in itunes first. You are just syncing wired otherwise. It's at the bottom of the device page in itunes. itunes-less syncing on the other hand is not possible.

I have that enabled.

But yeah, I'm an idiot for taking things literally. On the screen, the instruction reads, "Automatically sync with iTunes on your computer when your iPhone is plugged in power and connected to Wi-Fi" which does not have to be. Hence, the confusion.

On an unrelated note, I'm stupid for dropping my phone...just 6 days into owning it, while drunk. Two small dents on two corners. Yeah, protective case is on my "To Buy" list.
