Dredd 3D

Saw an early showing. An extremely excellent movie, good characterizations of their comic counterparts - with a story that works within its genre, and filled with characters that make reasonable decisions to make the action sequences appropriate and exciting.

I am extremely happy with the movie and definitely recommend it for people who like action movies - and also, people who enjoy movies that are written, directed and acted in a way that is compelling and interesting from a cinematic point of view.

The 3D work was done well, and used when appropriate and never done to an excess to show-off the technology. The best use of 3D were the slow motion sequences related to a drug that is seen in the movie.

I've gotten the impression that people in general have been surprised with how good this movie is. I'm very tempted to go based on the positive buzz.

It actually is out this weekend. I doubt I'll be able to get tickets for tomorrow, so maybe next week.

Saw it yesterday. I missed the first few minutes, which makes me sad, but I loved the movie. The action was top notch, and the way some things were framed makes me believe that they were forced to cut some gorier bits, ala Robocop. Hopefully that means we will get some awesome director's cut at some point .

I had a great time watching this. I've only recently started reading the comics but I am really impressed at how they managed to capture the screwed up world of Dredd.

I've been really interested in reading the comics since watching the movie. Is there anyway to acquire them legally AND digitally in the US?

I believe so. They send to anywhere now and do a digital version from their website. You may want to look a some of the collections such as the Judge Dress case files (although they're apparently sold out at the moment).
I STRONGLY recommend people start reading more 2000AD. Io9 has a great article up about the influence 2000ad has had.

Saw this yesterday morning, and loved it! It was a lot better than I thought it would be. I love the Stallone Judge Dredd, even though it is a shit movie. This one definitely got me interested more in the comics though, much like BLeeP. People need to see this, if for nothing else but great action and one liners.

Right, home now so not on my phone:
iOS digital version of 2000AD
Hard copy subscriptions
Judge Dredd specific collection: Judge Dredd case files Vol1
The Best of 2000AD (This seems like a collection of very early stories from 1977, repackaged for the American market).

Good article on io9 about 2000AD

Excellent blog from Pat Mills, creator of 2000AD and one of those responsible for the birth of Judge Dredd, on the creation of Judge Dredd.

I'd advise starting with prog (issue) 1800, which came out a couple of weeks ago and has 5 new stories. A good place to jump in. You have 35 years of a weekly comic to catch up on. No small task
List of 2000AD stories
If I'm coming across as a 2000AD shill it's because I love the comic, have done since I was 6, and I honestly believe that it's had a huge influence on sci-fi and fantasy since it began. You guys grew up with Superman, Batman, X-Men etc. I has Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper, The A.B.C Warriors, Slaine, Ace Trucking Co (And also some of Marvel and DC).
I think 2000AD deserves the attention it is receiving as a result of the new film. If I can help them sell more progs (Issues) then maybe I have payed them back for 35 years of awesome stories. Sure, they've has some stinkers over the years, but the weekly format has allowed them to adapt to the tatse of the readers.

Oh, and Judge Dredd is just the tip of the 2000 AD iceberg - I highly recommend Rogue Trooper and Slaine.

Buy the Rogue Trooper collections, read them and then then buy the Rogue Trooper game on steam.
Thank me later.
