So I figured, why not a generic Windows Phones thread. Next big thing in the works are Windows Phone 8 phones. I knew about the Lumia 920 and HTC announced the X8 today. I found out about Samsung's offering.

Looks like they stuck Windows Phone 8 OS in a Samsung Galaxy 3.

Windows 8 Nokia 920 will be by next phone...most likely.

Edit: Oh..but that Samsung is certainly much sexier.

I've always entertained the idea of having a WinPho backup. I'm too comfortable with android to change. I like the 920 and X8 for what they are but this one seems to strike the right cards to me. Don't really like the neon colors the others are pushing either. Sure there is a black, but the others are just weird. I imagine all of them are plasticy. Shame.

I bet Ativ S Note would kick ass.

So the cheaper HTC option has a SD card slot, does that mean Sd cards work now?

Really? I missed that. But I would assume so. The Samsung option has it for sure. I wonder if the 820 has one? Why would HTC handicap the flagship though?

SD card always worked. I have one in my Samsung Focus. It was always up to the manufacturer to include. Only caveat was/is you had to install the card on a factory cleanse/reboot so it could be taken into account.

I wasn't sold on the Nokia neon colours either. Apparently, spec-wise it is a supposed to be a better phone than the Samsung, but the Samsung has a larger battery (and a better look).

I was tempted to upgrade to the Android Samsung S3, but by the time December (and my contract) rolls around, it will be an 'old' phone already. I'm also so comfortable with Windows tiles now that grid-based screens seem so...archaic.

Well looking at the specs I think the X8 falls behind the other two. All of them have the same processor, RAM, Memory, OS, and base features. Real difference is camera, screen, battery. Like you said the Samsung wins battery but loses camera. Toss up on screen for second place between ATIV and X8. ATIV is bigger but the 8X has higher pixel density. Camera ATIV loses cause of features. Lumia is the clear winner for taking pics.

I say all great flagship phones compared to what they offered last go round. Funny thing is I think the 820 would best go up against the 8X. (Edit: I see some ways the 820 was gimped. So yeah it's still second tier.)

I'll say the current fantasy is a Galaxy Note 2 main with ATIV S backup.
