This. A thousand times, this. There's a reason I went into work on Sunday to take one of the guys out to watch wrestling. It made up for all of the dents I've been putting into the walls around the place from banging my head into them in frustration. The fun days (and the promise of possible future fun days) help me to just put my head down and bull through the tough slogs and the... challenging... family discussions.

It has been so long since I've had a day off without the kids running around, I don't know what to do with myself. Played TL2 till I got sleepy, now I'm watching The Taking Of Pelham 123. What further frivolity will I get up to next?!

I just started a new (easy, always easy) game of FTL with the alternate version of the second ship...and I didn't expect it to be this different. No sensors? Only one crew member? But two weapons and three drones? Very interesting.

I remember at some point seeing a screen that showed all the different ships, and maybe how to unlock them, but I can't find it again. I've only unlocked the one ship (and the one alternate version for said ship), so I'm curious what all I need to do to see some of the others.

edit: Ah, there's the list. I have no idea how easy or hard it is to unlock these guys (except the one for beating the boss - I already know that's hard). Guess I have no choice but to play more.

Guess I need to go downstairs and give the first exam of the semester. Let's see how it goes.

She finished a masters program in May. She will probably stay home a year. After that, we are hoping she can get some night classes as an adjunct professor.

What you're saying is all too familiar. My nights typically go like this: Get home from work at six, grab one of the twins and start feeding so my wife can make dinner, while feeding a baby talk to my older boys (4 and 5) about their days at school, switch off to the other twin for feeding, and try to lay them both down so we can sit at the table for dinner. After dinner spend some time with the family, get the boys ready, showered, and in bed by 9, which is just in time for the twins to need another bottle, get them fed and asleep by 10, spend some time with the wife until she passes out around 10:30, go out to the couch and game/read until 1/1:30, and then head to bed to start it all over again around 5:30 the next morning.

I swear, I'm so glad the twins are sleeping through the night, which is remarkable for being only 12 weeks old. If they weren't I think I'd go nuts. Well, more so.
It amazes me how much more sleep I need than in college. Then again, WoW was far more interesting than poopy diapers.

Strange you are supposed to sleep less as you get older. Which bods very well for me as in just a couple more years I will be sleepless. Which will do wonders for my already fantastic spelling and grammar.

I started writing academic literature for my fictional post-apocalyptic world. It's way more fun that I would have imagined it to be.

I could have another Master's degree trying to decipher Gen X's interpretations. I usually can assess his intentions pretty well.

What did she get her Master's degree in? I'd love to do some adjunct teaching. The pay stinks but i'd do it for the love of teaching and some supplemental income.

She may also want to look into teaching for some of online universities. They pay pretty decent too.

I don't know all the forums you visit, just the one I think it might be. I'll have to ask you when I see you in Gtalk.

In college I was notorious for not sleeping. Since then, I have gotten somewhat responsible and now I can't even imagine how I did it back then.

Are you considering doing it for NaNoWriMo?

Her degree is English (really along the lines of Literature Studies or something...aka English). There are a lot of community colleges and similar schools in the Pittsburgh area. She already has connections from grad school, so hopefully she can use them to pick up a few classes next fall. If that falls through, I'll keep online universities in mind. Thanks!

Adjunct pay doesn't always stink. At the community college where I'm currently working, I get just a hair under two grand per credit hour taught. Sure, this is because I've got a PhD and numerous years of experience. But it's better than the $600-800 my previous school would pay adjuncts.

Killing lots of crews in FTL.

Getting a start in Borderlands 2 with a Gunzerker and a Commando. I started the Gunzerker before my Premier Pack was integrated. Survival was a bitch. Started the Commando this morning and had my choice of Gearbox guns. Sweet! Made it much more bearable and sporting.

Looking forward to Torchlight 2 tomorrow.

This evening I get to go have a beer with my daughter's boyfriend.I think he's going to ask for my blessing on their getting married. Geez! She's my baby! Isn't she like about 14 years old? Couldn't she wait until I died first?

I hope I don't have to call in to work tomorrow from jail.

I did not know nor appreciate the meaning of the word, "exhaustion", until I had kids. I plumbed the depths of madness those first few weeks.

Note to any parents-to-be: If someone recommends you get lots of sleep before the baby comes, FOR GOD'S SAKE LISTEN TO THEM!

On the Borderlands 2 front, I am still having the hardest time aiming at anything. I am not sure if it's because of stats or something or if I just need to drop a setting or two a notch. I'm playing Gunzerker. I just know that I miss my hawk...

Today was a not fun day that turned into an OK day.

I started off the morning by discovering I'm getting about a grand less than I thought I was in Financial Aid, on top of which my 16-credit schedule took a serious cost leap for that last 4 credits, the result of which was I was barely going to have enough money to pay rent for the term, let alone make my trip to Finland in December.

The good news is, I will be able to confirm that I can still drop the 4th class and get the $500+ tuition back for it, so that'll make a big difference in my budget. I'll still probably have to get a part-time job I'm afraid, but at least things won't literally depend on said job just to eat, so long as I keep my food budget low, which I'm getting very good practice doing lately.

Then once I got home from the admissions office, I finally got to spend some face to face time on the webcam with my girlfriend for the first time in like a week and a half. We're finally getting used to each other enough that we even didn't spend the entire time giggling and making googly eyes at each other. Just maybe 25%. :P Quality time!

Gonna make myself some homemade kimchi burger in a few minutes I think, and then I might play something, or just hit the sack early around the same time as she does, so I can get up tomorrow and spend more time with the lady.

Pizza hut is coming to my home...ya I know I know. Pizza hut sucks and all that.
But I love it and tonight is another long night of finalizing Kickstarter art and writing music. I actually need to get back to writing the game.

I actually tried to write a bit of the same story (the actual narrative part) during Camp NaNoWriMo, but since I was in South Africa at the time, the writing part got away from me. I would love, love, love to do NaNoWriMo sometime and hammer out a lot of the story, but I've had a hard time fitting it in with classwork.

School ends this December, and I'd like to focus more on writing then. I think I'm like many dreamers who want to someday produce a book. Like many dreamers, I'm sure I'll eventually put it aside and forget about it.

Well, given that this has turned into a grump about work thread this week, I had one nice thing happen today. Even though I keep getting stuff piled on me, my manager's manager did send me a message recognizing that I've been going above and beyond the last little while. Phew.

My fellow managers are starting to hate me because I'm a keener and I'm making them look bad

I was speaking more for prospects of my own adjunct options. Mostly county community colleges or State U's. The pay stinks. But if one was offered i'd accept in a heartbeat.

When you say Pizza Hut is coming to your home do you mean a Pizza Hut girl is doing delivery to your home? Or you now have a Pizza Hut IN your home because you felt you really needed one there? I hope your personal Pizza Hut has the $5 all you can eat lunch

As I drove a garbage truck into pitched gang battle with "Holding Out for a Hero" playing on the radio, I conceded that Saint's Row 3 may be one of my favorite games this generation.

People who hate the Saint's Row games most likely have a joy-killing tumor in their brain that causes an excess in hate. Luckily, it's fatal so all we have to do is wait.

Their nonsensical ravings and pretentious attempts to belittle it are just the ravages of the tumor eating the part of the brain that controls the bladder.
