See, now I realize how lucky I am. I am positive my thief was a stupid teenager. A crackhead would have taken everything in my glove box.. the multimeter, the knife, the air pressure gauge... anything they thought they could sell.

Really sorry for your loss, and so glad I didn't get my window smashed.

I know it sucks, but it's kind of funny as well. You know they were pissed when they got home and opened the bag only to find a few tools and a piece of networking hardware. Not knowing what it was or how much it was worth, they probably threw it away. Fucking idiots.

For those of you who have had things stolen from your vehicles.....have you thought about filling a nice attache case full of dog shit and setting it on the front seat? Better yet, an attache case that is spring loaded with dog shit set to go off when it's opened?

edit: OMG, I just had an even better idea. It wouldn't be that hard to rig an old cheap cell phone to snap a picture when the case is opened and send it via text or MMS to your phone. Then you could see their stupid faces being covered in dog shit. Oh man...I'm totally gonna try this.

You can get a picture of them covering your car in dog shit. Plan can backfire too easily.

Back when I lived in Lincoln some asshole broke into my car as well. I came out of my apartment one morning (in a charming neighborhood full of drug dealers and prostitutes, no less) and got into the driver's seat. I looked over and noticed that my sunglass case was on the floor on the passenger side, rather than being in the glove box. I couldn't figure out how it had gotten there, but I shrugged, put it away, and drove to Target.

Upon finishing my shopping I walked back to my car, this time approaching the passenger side to unload my bags. It was at this point that I noticed that the keyhole was gone and the area around it was all scratched up. Some jerk had pried off the keyhole and opened the door, proceeding to rummage through my glove box and the rest of my car. They were likely looking for something to sell so they could score some meth. I never kept valuables in my car, so the only thing they stole was my roadside kit - just a few tools worth like $15.

It was going to cost something like $800 to replace the keyhole and repair the damage around it, so I bought some red duct tape that more or less matched the color of the car, taped over the hole, and had to see that eyesore for the rest of the time I owned the car. Fucking assholes!

Now it's on. I left for the shooting range this morning and saw the message "gas cap" blinking on my dash.

It rained all last night, and I went on a drive last night until 10 PM. So these little fuckheads came by and removed my gas cap. Looks like my tank is still full and no sugar is in there.

My neighbor got hit Wednesday too. Time for the no-doze and ghillie suit campout.

Not sure if they were trying to steal gas or just cause mayhem. Clearly bored teenagers.

My first car was given the death knell by bored teenagers who went around town smashing out windows. They hit at least 50 windows in one night, including several on school buses at the local Catholic High School. They smashed out my rear window, filling my car with shards of glass. The car was a POS and I was looking for a replacement anyway, but that certainly rushed the process.

Basically, people are jerks.

Thank you all for reminding me why I don't miss having a car, except for 2-3 times a year when it would be really convenient.

I don't miss having one either. Sometimes I think it would be nice to have one, but then I remember all of the hassle involved.

Of course riding the bus does involve it's own set of hassles, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper.

Though the MTA can sometimes piss me off (WTF is up with the fast track shit?) between that, my bicycle and my feet I have almost no need for a car. The missus donated her van last year to NPR and we've been living a car-free life since then.

Occasionally a car will be handy, such as when shopping at IKEA or Home Depot for big stuff, but then we just borrow our friends' car. They've pretty much become The Car Lenders for our circle of friends. They don't mind as long as you follow their rules: Don't crash (and pay for damage if you do); Pay for your tolls if you use their pass; Return the car with the same amount of gas you borrowed it with. Easy for us and they don't mind.

Granted, this past year was the mildest winter I've been in since I left L.A. two decades ago so I have yet to fully experience that "Holy shit I can't believe I'm lugging my fucking groceries around in 10 degree weather!" freakout.

Bone you need a really big dog to guard your driveway. Or you could go over the top like Mike Tyson and get a Lion.....but a dog would probably do.

Truth is, she didn't want to deal with humanity. She hates dealing with the public (though given her occupation that's a bit ironic) and the most she could hope to get for it was about $750-1000 (it was an old Toyota van she had put 250K miles on). Given that, a tax write-off was worth more to her than dealing with the random fuckwads that make up used car buyers so she donated it.

So ultimately it was more of a misanthropic act than a philanthropic one. As much as I hate people, she hates dealing with people and money.

EDIT: Also, fuck you.

EDIT 2: Dude, I saw the hats you wear! Be careful in your glass house my man.

Civil took my virginity in the back of that van, and now all we have left are the memories.

That or he took me to a movie. The details are fuzzy.
