On my last playthroughs I used Roland and had him specced with tons of clip size and rate of fire increases. I had revolvers with 12 rounds in the cylinder somehow. And they fired as fast as semiauto rifles. I had an epic revolver of every flavor... the Defiler for its amazing corrosive damage, and one for shock and fire damage as well (can't remember their specific names). So it was pretty much just pick the flavor of revolver for the enemy and go to town.

I think I found the Shock, but not the Incendiary or Corrossive.

Unlike most around these parts, I was not a HUGE fan of Borderlands. I enjoyed it and thought it was a fun game while it lasted but I didn't have the urge to go back or buy all the DLC. I might dig this one but I'm going to wait for it to go down in price say around $30 before I pick this one up. I didn't pick the 1st one up until it was $19.99.

Been playing the first for free with PS+. Fun game even in sp, in short bursts that is.

Wonder if there's more reason for solo players to pick up the this.

I only played it solo. It's fun except for the Arena and Crawmerax are stupidly hard solo, and trivial in Co-op.

When I first started with Mordecai I really didn't like him that much, but after putting a few points into the bird and handguns he was insanely fun. Specced for damage/heal and (I think) elemental or dizzy affects, you could have most mobs half-dead and yourself fully healed before you even had to pull your gun.

Looks like I'll be playing the Assassin character, focused primarily on the Sniper development skill tree!

I think I'll be doing the exact opposite, all melee assassin. Lots of choppy choppy in my future. Though I guess that sorta dulls the excitement of getting new weapons.

1.) I like sniper roles.
2.) Though choppy choppy could very well be tons of fun, with a game that emphasizes a bazillion guns, to me it feels like a disservice to not use them for a majority of the combat.

Snipers were pretty gimp in borderlands, at least in multi. SMGs and even pistols were much better at applying the DoTs/elemental damage you needed to take down the mobs that were immune to headshots.

If B2 is anything like the first you're going to want a good mix of weapon and damage types. Combustion Hellfire, Pestiliential Defiler, a high damage shottie electrical or explosive, and the hardest hitting sniper rifle you can get. For killing Crawmerax I had a Fearsome Bessie, Combustion Hellfire, Lightning Stinger, and Pestilential Defiler.

If there is a melee assassin build it'll need some way to apply elemental damage to melee weapons, assuming the elemental damage/weakness system is similar to the previous game.

I've always had an odd obsession with trying to go against type when I build characters in these types of games, especially hack n slash. I enjoy the challenge, trying to defy what the average player turns the class into. Still, i don't even think that's true in this case. Melee makes up a full 3rd of the Assassin's skill tree, so it must be somewhat effective.

The Assassin seems to be a different type of class than the Sniper from B1. While the sniper element is still a part of it, the assassin seems to focus on stealth, speed, distraction and chaining kills together. I think the point is for him to do maximum damage from any range while either the holographic decoy or other players keep enemy's focus. I'm actually kinda curious to see how they use elemental damage in B2. You used to be able to apply elemental damage to your special skill, I wonder if that might also apply to an Assassin's blade.

I'll probably try:

-a Zero with Major Sniping, Minor Cunning
-an Axton with Major Guerilla, Minor Survival
-a Salvador with Major Gunlust, minor Brawn
-Maya with Major Cataclysm, Minor Harmony.

The only class I'm not that interested in is Axton, his skill tree seems pretty boring.

Yeah, the other classes are all fairly new feeling, but his just seems like a copy of Roland from the last game.

I will probably do the Assassin first, but I'm not sure which way I'll play it. Although the gunzerker looks fun as well.

Zer0: Bloodshed, Sniping
Axton: Commando, Guerrilla
Salvador: Brawn, Rampage
Maya: Cataclysm, Harmony and Motion

I'll probably run the Maya first, as I'm giddy over elemental damage, and I know my regular crew is gonna need a nursemaid.

DAMMIT, SEPTEMBER 18. WHY ARE YOU NOT HERE ALREADY?

Speaking of elemental damage, anyone know what the "slag" elemental does?

Wiki sez it's a non-stacking armor debuff.
