The first one was a huge fucking disappointment for me, all those names and they did dick with most of them. So I have low expectations for this.
That said, I watched the trailer and at the Van Damme as the villain and Hemsworth and Arnold involved too. I grinned. I'll be there watching it.

Because it made a fuckload of money and people find the combination of geriatrics and explosions appealing.
That scene Wasson posted was the only thing worth watching in the first movie. The synopsis says someone will die in the first act, and since Crews is a black guy...

If you liked 80s action movies, this will not disappoint. The opening scene is fucking incredible, feels like they blew most of their budget on it. The character development and interaction isn't great, and some of the back-stories are pretty lame. I feel like it would've been better paced had Stallone directed it, the only things that he did wrong in the first Expendables were the way he shot the fighting scenes and not give the rest of the characters enough screen time.
The Jet-Li fight scene in 2 is awesome, though short. The action is also a lot gorier, heads blow up more frequently, like they did in the latest Rambo. The dialogue though, oh, the fucking dialogue. Some parts were painful to sit through and so awkwardly paced, the comedy timing was off and corny. This would've greatly benefited from having Willis say more things but at least he got to shoot something this time around. I would recommend it to people who want to see real things blow up, instead of the shitty CGI-fest that happens in every movie nowadays. The action is awesome but don't expect much when they start talking. Oh, and did I mention Chuck Norris shoots a lot of shit? It's pretty sweet.

I think the Expendables movies are one of those movies that are just blow-up popcorn fest movies that don't take themselves seriously nor are asking of you too.

I laughed at the Chuck Norris fact.
Though I didn't go in expecting a serious film, I was expecting a corny, ham fisted, cheesy dialogue with 80s type action and it didn't disappoint.

There is also the fact that a lot of the movie is a whole lot of posturing by people who can't really do shit. I mean, you have Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Van Dam, Chuck Norris, Scott Adkins and Randy Coutoure, all proficient martial artists, and they barely get any screen time. Most of it is really uncomfortable improv between Sly and Statham, none of which is funny.
It wasn't a complete wash, there are direct to DVD movies starring some of those guys that are so better than this.

Li was barely in this film, although I'd probably say he got equal action in it than the first film, even though he was in it for less time.
It's not really a martial arts film, and with any film with a large cast of action charatcers you simply can't give them all a lot of screen time. Going into a film like this expecting them all to get lots of character development and the amount of time they would in each of their own films is highly unrealistic.

But most of the movie was Stallone stroking his ego, along with his pal Statham. So much wasted talent.
Universal Soldier 3 scratched the itch that the first movie was supposed to, and there is a new one coming out later this year.
