I'm not sure how much it matters but for the few that use the feature, "Note that the Paperwhite no longer offers the audio support found on the Touch -- but we doubt anyone will miss that"

Actually the auto voice reader was a great help to vision impaired people. I know one user here posted it as helpful after eye surgery. I believe that's why they are still selling the keyboard model, for accessibility.

But only thing cheaper than a kindle for audiobooks is the iPod shuffle.

I did not consider that. Does it just read text files aloud, making every book an audiobook? Because that would be pretty baller.

It does, with synthesized voices. It's not perfect, but it works not as audio books, but as reading aid. I use it once in a while to get pronouciation right.

I believe the tablets have the functionality now to read along with actual audio books version, but like everything with this announcement, it's not clear whether you have to buy the text if you have the audio book license.

It's not worth subsidizing because it's not worth having. Even just web browsing, I can easily climb up to a gig in a month, even with light use. If they had a 2 GB plan for $50/year, that would be something to talk about. This is a joke.

I like the resolution boost but I still find 8.9 a odd size. I guess without really know the reason. Seems like it would be to close to 7.

With an iPad that I travel everywhere with, I have a 1GB plan with Verizon on 4G LTE - I can barely hit 250MB with browsing and Pandora and such. There's so much wifi everywhere that you go these days that you barely use the 4G featureset. If you're banging out images constantly and looking at imgur or whatnot, sure, but for general web browsing/reading - 250MB goes a lot further than you'd think.

Much of this country thinks Green Bay, WI is a third-world country or a bunch of mouth-breathers that are stuck in the stone age - yet we've got many businesses that're WiFi equipped, many homes that way too. Your situation may be totally different where you live, maybe not (my guess is that it is the situation that you're even bringing it up that way.)

If I can get the paperwhite for $119 without ads I suspect there will be a new e-reader in this house. Kudos to them for making an e-reader that is just an e-reader, while upgrading just about every element of what makes up an e-reader.

Better resolution, a real touchscreen leading to a thinner/lighter reader, new lighting tech that sounds wonderful for an e-reader, remove points of failure(most of the buttons that weren't needed in the first place), etc.

Where were you going? I know a couple of years ago when I got my tablet, I started to notice more free hot spots.

I'm still really enamored of my Nexus 7, but the battery life of the Paperwhite is certainly impressive and attractive. I'm glad they're finding ways to keep e-ink competitive.
