This is coming to consoles as well? Eww...here's hoping they do it justice. I have faith, but I've been smacked so many times that I'm always cautious going into something like this.
Don't disappoint me, Firaxis! The video previews I watched a few months ago were promising.

Which game play video are you referring to? I watched 2-3 of them a couple of months ago, but I'm not sure if they are the same ones posted in this thread. Was there one in particular you think I should check out?

I've played more turn-based strat games on console/handheld than I have on PC. Fortunately they work great on just about any platform.
The recent video highlighted full controller support on PC platform as well.

TBS games are pretty much the sole reason I own a DS and PSP. Hopefully this does well and people take notice and realise that there's a market for this kind of thing. I'd pay good money for a proper Jagged Alliance remake, although JA2 with the unofficial patch/overhaul is pretty damn awesome still.
We're apparently going to see the PC interface for this at PAX, so I'll be paying attention to that. |

As I've always said, I trust Firaxis. Haven't steered me wrong yet.
Multiplayer looks like a blast. Like, a chess-type blast.

And yeah, the multiplayer definitely looks like something my friends and I will sink time into. I wonder if it's always just a deathmatch or whether there are objective based modes too. Also, Mags! Have you done your required viewing yet? You have three videos to watch now that I'm sure will convince you that this is a game you want!

Do you really think that I have two hours to watch X-COM videos?
![]() I'll skim the three right now though. Edit - Looks good so far.

Pre-order is available on Steam now.
It appears to have a tiered reward system based on the number of people who pre-order, with everyone getting a free gift-able copy of Civ 5 as the final reward (tier 3). Very cool. It's already 14% of the way to the first tier, which is the Elite Solder Pack, which adds a load of customization options for your solders. Edit: Scratch that, 42% of the way there now. In 5 minutes. I think we'll make tier 3 no problem.

Delayed until who knows when, hopefully not cancelled. Using the TBS to re-launch the series and then releasing a branching sequel is a great way to do it

The story with the FPS prequel/side-game set in the 50's is that the game has had a "problematic" development. I have no idea what that means, but that's the excuse that was thrown out there.
There was a bit of rage from some gamers like myself over the FPS XCOM because most assumed it was a reboot of the franchise. Some believe that the FPS got shelved due to this outrage so the publisher can wait till the gamer rage blows over. The truth of the matter is the entire dev team who was working on XCOM have been reallocated to another game(the name I can't remember at the moment) to help in getting that game finished. After that, they may pick up where they left off, or they may get put on another project if the suits deem the FPS XCOM too risky a venture. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. |
