To be fair, from the incredibly limited amount of Judge Dredd I've read, the whole "Raid a big building, fight your way to the top and kill the gang boss" theme is a stand by in the comics. Like, it's one of the first stories ever written for the character.

In the time this movie has been in production, The Raid was written, cast, shot and released.

Yes, the two share similar plots. Which one was first is debatable, but if you read up on the two it would appear to indicate that the Dredd script and production came first. Also, the Mega Blocks are an integral part of the Judge Dredd universe. Dredd fighting his way through a Block has been a recurring theme since 1977.

I really liked the trailer, and I thought the whole storm the building concept looked like it coul actually make for a real good movie.

You can read the backstory of Ma-Ma in an online comic here.

Let us know what it is like Squid. I'm not overly keen on seeing it, but I might if I heard good things.
If it crashes like a giant turd I'll wait for the TV spot.

I'm not even a diehard dredd fan, but I think I might go see this in the theaters. I like the look, the preview comic was great and the actors seem to be passionate about the project. I think that's enough for me.
Edit: It's not out for weeks and I'm dumb. Last edited by Scaryfaced; 09-08-2012 at 11:03 AM. |

Well that was fantastic. I absolutely loved it throughout. And the non Dredd fan I was with enjoyed it too, so it wasn't just my the rabid 2000AD fan boy in me.
Going again this Friday.

I want this to be good. This has been a wholly disappointing summer of comic-book movies.

Those are all films for you!
Anyways, I've heard a number of good things about this film now, enough that I may even go to watch it in the cinema! I haven't yet seen The Raid, so I can't be bias about how much this film is copying it..
