He needs to find a better money laundering person.

Sure he has ribbons on the money but like fuck counting that. So she thought maybe weighting each bill was easier. Why hell Walt even bother counting it up and wrapping it in the first place. (aside from everyone else's cut)

I saw the Whitman on the toilet, but I thought they were just referencing Gale; I should have known that it was going to play a greater purpose later in the episode.

I hear people complaining that we never actually saw GB hand the book to WW, and so it's uncharacteristic retconning to create this gift and put it in Hank's lap to drive the plot forward.

I'm sympathetic to that perspective, but it's harsh, I think. I had the same reaction when I first saw it -oh look, Easter egg. I feel like it does a good job of explaining how/why Walt knew the Whitman quote off the top of his head when Hank threw it at him two seasons ago. I'm cool with Walt using science and psychology to manipulate situations, but knowing Whitman on command seemed like a reach to me, especially because we never saw Walt display any such interest in the past.

I saw a writeup online, who said that the book really was given to Walt in Season 3 episode 6 apparently at the 25:00 mark. I don't have the series available to see so I can't confirm.

Okay, so this was weird: I was watching some old episodes of Breaking Bad on Netflix. After finishing an episode, I turned it off, and went back to cable, which was set to Encore Suspense. Who do I see? Bryan Cranston, grizzled as hell with a big beard. It's an episode of Diagnosis Murder. His character's name? Walter.

Everything he's ever done is clearly in some way a setup for this show!

I actually half believe that. I think what makes Walt so terrifying (note how scared Jesse was when he came to pay a friendly visit) is that half the time he's still Malcolm's dad and he can't ever get rid of that.

Gilligan has said before that he doesn't really have a master plan, because you can't have a master plan in such a long form, supposedly.

Sure doesn't seem like it.

Huh. I just watched Mike rough up Axel Foley and his pal in the hall outside of Axel's apartment in Beverly Hills Cop. He was looking MUCH younger and didn't have that trademark growl to his voice that he does in Breaking Bad.

I love the Hank toilet memes.

We should have known something bad would happen. For the first time ever (I think), Marie showed up to the White house wearing NOT PURPLE.

So, one of my friends was kicking around the theory that the book is actually something Walt has had much longer, and it was given to him by Gretchen Black, not Gale Beddecker.

That makes a LOT of sense, especially since it bothered me that Walt would be so dumb to leave that book just sitting around.

The "My beloved To my other favorite W.W." is definitely a red herring. It's something Gale WOULD have said. I guess it comes down to whether the handwriting is the same.

Also, thanks Orc, that's something I missed! I forgot her name.

Honestly it doesn't matter if it's Gretchen, which makes it a more realistic and totally random foil. Hank now has made a connection that, knowing him, he will follow until he is out of a job or dead.

Right, and I'm not saying that its definitely her, but the theory makes sense, at least. I also couldn't figure out why he left the book out.
