Nope, but one day I really should. I've beaten 1 (on PSP) and 2 (on PS1), but gave up on 3 about 8 hours in. I'd like to track down a copy one day if only to have the entire series (minus Blue Sphere of course) available to me.

Well the PS3 version has the Japanese audio which somewhat mitigates the dub issues (which are overrated anyway). A very goofy plot twist but I felt SO2 also had a lot of plot problems. The combat is really great though, definitely an improvement from 2. And some of the environments are quite nice. I do like both games.

Oh, that's what I've heard. Honestly whether or not I play it isn't really much of a value judgement on the game itself but whether or not I can find the time to make for it. The third game really left a sour taste in my mouth, I was really looking forward to it after loving the second and it just wasn't what it should have been. I could have forgiven the wonky story, but the battles just weren't fun.

Agreed. Sonic & Knuckles really wasn't very good WITHOUT being plugged into Sonic 3. Honestly, I see them as one big package too.

I haven't really played SO4 (I think I finished 3), but my wife had trouble getting very far because the first area or so had painfully eye-bleeding visuals.

For me, in the X series the best are 1 and 4. 4 has such crisp graphics and tight gameplay, being the first one the PSone...the ones after are pretty forgettable however.

I know the video doesn't touch on X2, but X2 is just as profound, has a lot more variety, and more challenges, and the secrets and powerups are hidden brilliantly. That might sound like silly reasoning, but it is at the core of intelligent design.

X2 is perfect.

Oh that's strange. I quite enjoyed the alien feeling tropical setting as a change-up from most JRPGs. Of course, you do get some more typical JRPG environments later on. I didn't notice any particular eye strain.

Maybe the settings were weird or something, but the whole first area (it got better afterward) seemed like an impressionist painter dropped acid then exploded their art everywhere. And not in that amusing way like when Chrono Cross had you running through modern art.
