And there are real people out there who this story happened to who I have to believe might be pretty negatively impacted by having it fictionalized.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to make it, and again, it probably makes for compelling film. I'm just not sure I'm on board with the "why."

That was my point. A lot of the audience of the movie already got what it had to offer from the news story. The event is too fresh.

Hey, I just saw Robot and Frank, I hadn't heard anything about it and it was freakin' GREAT. Very Indie vibe, so be forewarned.

However, do yourself a favor and DO NOT WATCH THE TRAILER. After the movie I wanted to see what the trailer looked like and it's basically the entire movie squished into 2 minutes, including giving away several laugh-out-loud moments and unexpected plot points.

All you need to know about the basic premise is 'In the near future, Frank is sliding deeper into Alzheimer's, so his son buys him a Robot to help around the house. Hijinks ensue.'

It's great, Frank Langella spends basically the entire movie onscreen with a faceless robot and manages to never make you feel like it's a movie. It's funny as hell but not a comedy; it's serious as a heart attack but not a drama; it's social commentary but not judgmental.

Yeah, I went through the thread and saw that there was a trailer already linked, but the link was busted. That's when I found the 2-minute trailer online and was shocked at how much of the movie it gave away. Thought I'd spare anyone the disappointment if they can avoid it; but yeah, sorry, once you've seen the trailer the movie will likely have lost a lot of the funny surprises. Still an amazing performance by Langella.

There's a great interview on AICN right now with the director, Craig Zobel (some possible spoilers). He discusses why he chose this particular incident (which is actually one of the least disturbing that has occurred, some went into sexual abuse territory), and they talk in length about how people continually get hoodwinked into following these anonymous instructions over the phone. There's even mention of the old Milgram experiment, if you're interested.

Haha, yeah, it's one of those movies where I wished I would still smoke the green stuff, maybe I will even have a small relapse just to soak in the whole hilarity of it.

Not that it can't be good, but some movies, like Fear and Loathing are just wayyyyy better when under the influence.

Anyway, The Marvel TV show is going to be SHIELD, with the team behind Dr. Horrible, Joss Whedon, his brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are writing the pilot. And now for the bad news; joining them is Marvel TV head Jeph Loeb, known for Ultimates 3, Red Hulk and the writer who wasn't good enough for Heroes.

Speaking of Shield, The Shield creator Shawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy are shopping around a Beverly Hills Cop TV show.

Wouldn't be too worried about Jeph Loeb. Pretty sure Whedon is going to call the shots. I mean, the fact Marvel let them out together the Dr. Horrible team says enough.

However the show turns out, it'll be on Whedon's shoulders.

Eddie Murphy needs to man the fuck up and get back into stand-up like he has teased and backed away from for the past decade.
