Oh, I forgot. FOV. I'm not sitting six feet from a TV; I'm sitting one foot from a monitor. Fix the default FOV and/or let me change it myself.

I made a decision today. Depending on the port, I may not care. The Dark Souls port is barebones, but still superior to the console. The only real criticism I have is GFWL. If its a console experience I don't care so much if it means I wouldn't get it otherwise. If it performs well and controls well, im happy b

it never seemed like it used to, but FOV is becoming a big deal for me. When I started playing Serious Sam 3 I left the FOV at 65 or whatever it was defaulted to and it made me sick. Flip it to 85/90 and everything was ok.
I used to be a little more snobby about console to pc ports avoiding them like the plague. Now I don't really care as much as I tend to lower my expectations a bit. So, I throw my listing into needs and wants Need: 1. reasonable FOV or the ability to adjust. 2. Proper input support. (I will whip out the controller when the game practically begs for it, but if it's a FPS game, M+K or GTFO) 3. Playable at the native resolution of my monitor (1920x1080) 4. (if MP is part of the package) Reasonable Multi-player support. I don't need dedicated servers and pixie dust etc. But if you insist on matchmaking, it damn well better work and work well. 5. Good patch support. Wants: 1. Better graphic support (including adjusting and tweaking) 2. dedicated servers with NO matchmaking 3. The same content available on consoles (I went back and forth on this because it pisses me off when the consoles get something and then the PC doesn't get it. But realistically I do at least want the game). 4. Patches at the same time/before consoles. I think that's a good start. |

I tend to avoid most console to PC ports in general. I already have plenty of awesome PC games to play. If the developers don't bother to optimize their releases for the PC then I don't bother to play their games.

After playing a bunch of Iron Brigade, I expect it to 1) let you pick your controls, so you don't have to unplug everything else and 2) not use GFWL.

A half dozen USB ports, at least 4 of them USB 3.0, an HDMI port.I don't have much use for Firewire but an ESATA might come in handy. Display Port is getting more use these days but I'll still get use out of a pair of DVI ports.

These days, six USB ports is honestly a bit on the low side.

If I don't have a gamepad plugged in, please don't give me the fucking gamepad button prompt to perform an action, tell me the mouse button or key so I don't need to go to the control menu just to see what key I am supposed to be pressing.

The flip side to this is when you're using a gamepad, which you've been using for the entire time you've been playing the game, and it switches to showing you the mouse and keyboard controls whenever it detects the tiniest of mouse inputs. Mice tend to be pretty sensitive and it's irritating.

What I hate is when having a gamepad plugged in disables keyboard and mouse controls. This happened to me recently playing Fallout: New Vegas, and just felt lazy.

FOV.
Single most important detail now. Certain PC games are just unplayable to me as a result. Dead island, Space Marine and a few others. Dead Island would make me sick within 5 minutes. Next up would be gamepad support. Dead Rising 2 I'm looking at you!

Dead Rising 2 doesn't have gamepad support? I played it on my 360 pad on the PC.

Fuck all for support from Capcom on the issue too... that's where I get pissed off, so many ports get shitty post release support.

What I want is pretty simple and vague in concept, but it's also keeping iwth the spirit of how games do features. I want the PC version to be competitive for my money with other PC games and feature settings like the best PC games do. Because that is what they are competing with.
It's not so much the lack of features, but the reason why the features are lacking, that you can just see that they weren't able to get the people required to do the PC version. Maybe it's something as lame as the UI people not having the time to add the options to a screen that the coders wrote, or no one having the time to make sure that mouse controls use different aiming methods than a gamepad with it's need for well coded acceleration and auto-aim. I want to look at the game and forget about the console versions, and ask "does this stand up as a PC game on a technical level?" Favorite recent example is Sleeping Dogs, where if someone told me that it was a PC only game, I'd believe them. |

That's a good point. When playing a PC game, I never want to get the feeling that is was also released on consoles. If I'm reminded that it's cross-platform over and over again, then it's a bad port.

I suppose it could still make a liar out of me, but all indications seem to be that the upcoming X-COM will be a swell example.
It isn't even a port, strictly speaking, but a different verson, which I think is the ideal. |

I think it would be nice if the UI changed based on if a controller is detected. If it's a port, the controller interface is already made. Spending that PC time tightening that up.
Also couldn't they just make the PC version first and then port scaled down (yet tweaked) versions to console?
