I should know better than to judge a book so soon after picking it up, because now it's awesome. I just had trouble when it was just the first 3 dudes walking forever with no dialogue. When more characters appeared, i got hooked.

I finished one book from the Story Bundle, Bypass Gemini, and started on Undersea. I've definitely gotten my dollar's worth of entertainment and would recommend other people chip in for some cheap reads. The writing's definitely better than expected.

Finished Robopocalypse, entertaining read but I think the characters were a bit underdeveloped.

Currently reading: The Leftovers - Perrotta. Remember those 'Left Behind' thriller books that were about the Rapture and Armageddon? Yeah absolutely NOTHING like that. This book's about a regular small town guy and his family and how they deal with the Rapture in their own ways. I'm digging it so far.

My appetite for Steve King books continues on, with me just purchasing 9 more books of his through Amazon. They have most of his older works on a "Get 4 for the price of 3" deal, so I ordered:
The Talisman (based on Superman's Dead's previous recommendation)
Skeleton Crew
Just After Sunset
The Eyes of the Dragon
Blaze
Four Past Midnight
Cell
Blackhouse

and finally The Wind Through the Keyhole, as the hardcover price just dropped to $16 to match the impending paperback release at the same pricepoint.

I have my Discover Card linked up to Amazon and it just so happens to have $133 in cash back rewards on it, which Amazon recognized. I was able to pay off the entire order with my total being $0.00 as they drew from my cash back stockpile. Gotta love Discover Card!

Started reading "The Devil & Sherlock Holmes" by David Grann, the same guy who did "The Lost City Of Z".

So far, so good.

Hooray The Talisman!

I started a re-read myself but didn't get too far into it because I wanted to finish up the Walter Scott book of the same name (King very VERY loosely connects the two)

The versions of The Talisman and Black House I ordered are the upcoming re-releases of both books, which don't drop until the end of September and November respectively. So, it it will be about two months until I get to The Talisman.

I'm also a big Eyes of the Dragon fan.

One of my favorite camp counselors told that story to us in 5 parts when I was a kid. He's a fancy stand-up comedian now, and on a cable TV show. I see him around LA sometimes, and that's cool. Listening to him weave Stephen King's story (substituting the names of the main characters for the names of our other counselors) was really really cool to experience as a child.

I take it there was a not so liked counselor who got assigned the role of Randall Flagg?
Eyes of the Dragon and Wind Through the Keyhole will be the first two books of the lot that I read; I'll probably start with Keyhole as it is supposed to be really short.

Finished: Th Sword of Shannara by Terry Brooks.

I knew I'd probably like it if I gave it a chance. Definitely paid off. I didn't feel like it was a stunning masterpiece of story and deception, but I geniunely enjoyed the characters and the world he created. I'm ashamed that I had this book for so long without giving it a fair chance, and that I spoke negatively of it a page ago in this thread. Second book is on my reading list for this year.

Currently reading: Starship Troopers by Robert Heinlein.

Glad you liked it. They only get better, in my opinion.

Just finished "Blue Remembered Earth", the new book by Alistair Reynolds. Not an explosive actionfest but great, hard sci-fi. Very enjoyable.

Now working my way through the next to latest Laundry Files book, "The Fuller Memorandum", by Charles Stross. Fantastic, and hilarious, Lovecraftian geek sci-fi.

That's good to hear. I flipped a coin to decide between this book and "Redshirts" to read next, and now I'm almost done with Redshirts (which has been good, BTW) and ready to move onto something a bit deeper.

Reynolds' books are often slow burns and rarely leave me feeling happy, but they are satisfying and thought provoking.

This one had a satisfying ending. It also looks like he's planning more in this new universe although this book didn't have a "sequel is coming" ending.

Finished "The Fuller Memorandum" by Charles Stross. Outstanding as usual. If you haven't read Stross you are missing out.

I've finished World Record Jeopardy champ's, Ken Jenning's, kind-of memoir about his time on the show, Brainiac. For the first two thirds of the book, I felt like I was reading something I could have easily written myself, so that was disappointing. I've spent time in quiz bowl, and understand the culture. There's hardly anything new in it.

Also read another book by Jennings, Maphead, which is harder to summarize. It's part a collection of geographical oddities and the weirdness of the world. It's part a lamentation on the current state geographical awareness in the populace. It's a love letter to cartographers.

It's brilliant and fascinating.

A Hundred Thousand Kingdoms - Jemisin
They story was okay, it seemed to fall somewhere between young adult and standard fantasy. I never really cared about the main character, but the creation myth that the world was based on was pretty cool.

Boneshaker - Priest
I wanted to like this book. I mean I'm not really into steampunk but there's a lot of overlap here with other genres, books, authors that I like. Unfortunately I never really got into the story. It was a long while before I the story took off for me (like first half of the book) and even then it wasn't really a page turner for me, which is sad considering there were air pirates, mad scientists and zombies.

Uncharted: The Fourth Labyrinth - Golden
I grabbed this book as a 'let me read this for 5 min while I drink my coffee and eat a muffin' at the book store and I have to say it kinda grabbed me. It was on sale for like $5 so I figured what the hell and grabbed it to finish the story/mystery. Does a good job of getting the feel of the Uncharted world down, Drake and Sully are right on point. The story is basic and somewhat predictable, but if you enjoy the Uncharted games you may want to check this one out.
