Depends on the genre of music you like. Hip-Hop really didn't come into it's own until the 90's and that's the genre I prefer to listen to the most.

Also I didn't realize there were so many rivet/metalheads on CoG. Where are all the Country fans? :P

Seriously am I the only poster here who likes hip-hop?

I'm all about old-school hip-hop. Not Grandmaster Flash old-school, Mobb Deep Hell on Earth old-school.

I'm into both country AND hip hop. It was mentioned earlier...but I'm a big fan of Eminem and Dre and basically that whole crew. I've recently gotten into Slaughterhouse. Also a gigantic fan of Saul Williams, and partial to Sage Francis as well.

As far as country goes, it's a mixed bag. I have some guilty pop country pleasures, but I'm about either old school George Strait/Hank Williams kind of stuff, or outlaw country and cowpunk (Especially including Hank III).

Oh, and the blues. It's why I got on Supe's 30s bandwagon. I'm a huge blues fan. I made a post about it a while back, but my pops is a bluesman.

Generally speaking, name a genre and I have stuff I'm a huge fan of.

I love the 70s and 80s, a lot but the 60s is the Cambrian explosion of modern music.

This thread does not compute as all musical decades have been great.

I used to listen to a lot of mid-2000's rap, stuff like Jedi Mind Tricks, Talib Kweli, etc.

I am not a fan of the poppy country stuff that is rampant nowadays, but the classics are amazing:

I feel hip hop has been consistently good throughout the decades:

I think this best summarizes the thread.

Also, I love Hip Hop/Rap. Overall I think it's the most exciting single musical genre of the past two decades. I hate going to a lot of hip hop shows, though. Smaller shows at alternative spaces are awesome, but when the show is more manner than music I get sad.

Also, fuck yes with country (the good shit, not 98% of modern crap). Though I will always love Lyle Lovett (saw him last week) and Lucinda Williams. Hank III is fucking righteous.

Lastly, before the pussified band that was Wilco there existed one of my all-time favorite bands: Uncle Tupelo. Pretty much birthed the alt-country scene of the 90s. Check out Son Volt as well for the best part (IMHO) of that band Jay Farrar. I always found it sad that Jeff Tweedy (who is a genuinely awesome fucking dude) became a megastar while his partner in UT pretty much faded into obscurity.

And though she is no longer country any more, Neko Case is my goddess. She used to play (and sometimes help bartend IIRC) at my favorite place in Chicago to see music, the Hideout. I fell head over heels in love with her. My wife knows Neko is a woman I would leave her for if given the chance.

No joke, man. And she keeps looking better. The cover of Middle Cyclone is both one of the sexiest and the most badass photos I have ever observed.

You just like Neko because of her Canadian connection.

That was just a dark period in her life. She's back in the US now. Where she belongs.

Other than in my bed.
