Anyone playing Sleeping Dogs, know if you can eventually pick up items in the environment to hit thugs with? The basic moves are lame.

It was a way into the NES's life, my mom saved up and got the exercise pad bundle and three games. Ninja Gaiden, Desert Commander, and Castlequest. Ninja Gaiden was by far the coolest of the bunch. Castlequest, on the other hand, is legitimately insanely hard, even considering the game came with a map complete with route guide. I think my brother got a third of the way through it or so, but that was it.

I always click your math links. I think at the old place or maybe it was here you linked to a paper you did or something. I think you were surprised someone actually tried to read through what you linked.
I can point to the articles I've written, but they're actually behind a paywall. If you wanted to read them, or the dissertation they came from, it'd be easier for me to email you the old .pdf's.

Play Alan Wake if you have it. If not pick it up at the Steam Xmas sale.
Oh, I have it. And American Nightmare. But, like Amnesia, it's one of those awesome games that I really wanted to play that I haven't touched yet for some unknown reason.

As for Dust, I think it's a timed exclusive. A long one possibly, but it will make it to other platforms. I wish I had an Xbox to give you. It would be awesome to find a game to play online with you.
Remind me when it appears on Steam. Not sure if I'll remember.

Once my wife and I were hanging out at a friend from grad school's place. She changed the volume and would only bump it up or down by two. When my wife asked why, I said I knew, because I do it too. We didn't want to set the volume to a prime number. Don't ask why. I don't have a clue.

In gamey news, I hit level 60 in Diablo with my monk. And so far, Inferno feels way easier on this character than my Barbarian or Witch Doctor.

I've heard stories of people putting a thug's head through an aquarium and then beating on their buddies with a fish that flopped out of the tank.

frederec, have you played Slender yet? It's free and by god, it's probably the scariest game I've ever played.

So my gaming PC decide to die last night. I bought it only a few months ago and now it wont start anymore. My theory is that I didn't get the sleep function working correctly and it would run for days at a time without me noticing. Perhaps something overheated? I dunno. It took my last system years to do any damage.

I'm a bit illiterate on the hardware side, but it will no longer boot windows and hangs during loading. It says something to the tune of "Hit delete on start-up to change boot order or insert boot media to continue" and just sits there. Anyone have any ideas on what to do? I made a backup at some point and I'm pretty sure there are reinstall disks that came with the system when I got it.

Sounds like your HD went piff. Can you get to the BIOS menu?

Edit: Also, curse you Xseed for the damn week delay on Last Story.

Yep, BIOS loads just fine. I'm running and SSD, just in case that matters.

It really sounds like this is some kind of border snafu. I don't think they intentionally planned to send it late.

I'm annoyed it's delayed, but it has been pushed back so much over the past few months I should be able to just roll with this. Not like I don't have a pile of stuff to work on in the meantime.

That is rough. The system is only a few months old? I'd be throwing some hairy monster fits. Maybe i'll throw one in your PC's honor.

I'd love to read your work. Just expect a lot of questions.

This leveling up to 60 must be extremely difficult with all that lack of patience you have

I'm going to see if I can find a fish tank so I can kill some thugs. Thanks Spig.

Actually, engineers are pretty much the same way. At least, the engineering grad students I hang out with.

Speaking of that lot, we did our rafting trip today. I worsened my sunburn, I'm sure, but it was a nice, relaxing three-hour float from Bowness Park down to the Zoo. The river was holy-shit cold (IMO), but that didn't stop one student from ditching her lifejacket and doing a brief swim in behind us. Crazy woman. We got out before the rapids (we had 11 people in a ten-man raft; I'm surprised the cops didn't say anything when they were out doing safety checks), so other than a couple of brief bits of turbulence (and once hitting the side of a bridge support), it was uneventful. Just nice and chill.

Rayan: Origins on the Vita is dusted. Finally finished off the Livid Dead level. Freaking insane what they expected you to pull off, but it felt so good when I finished it off.

Don't know if I have much inclination to finish off anything else this weekend. I've been meaning to spend more time on Minecraft and Dragons Dogma, but I have so much else goin on this weekend it's hard to say.

My son learned about the fish that swims up your urethra and starts chomping away today. Now he doesn't want to swim in case he's attacked by a "pee-hole fish".

I'm looking forward to the inevitable SyFy original movie based on the pee-hole fish.

He's just protecting his business, Spig. He's not wrong.

On the gaming front...who the hell knows? I'm not really into anything right now. My roommate and I are playing Deadly Premonition together. Stupid, stupid game. And the driving is the worst. But the voice acting almost makes it worth it.

I tried playing New Vegas, and then realized that I'm pretty much burnt out on Fallout. Going to VATS to shoot some assholes in a permanently brown world where everything is ruined is just boring at this point.

I tried playing Alan Wake and just got bored. Same with Saint's Row.

So...who knows. Hopefully I find something to play.

It really sounds like your Hard drive isn't working. Try setting your load order in bios and see if you can boot from a windows dvd and look at the drive at all.

No. But apparently I'm going to be looking it up soon...

I think I tuned it out because the slender man seemed like one of the more stupid modern urban legend horror creations.

Researchers are usually very big on sharing and collaborating and such. It's the journal publishers that tend to make things difficult. And that's why some people are trying to fight back a bit these days.

You are welcome to it. If you're serious, pm me your email address, and shit can get real. Though my fiction would probably be infinitely more readable than my math. And if you go down that rabbit hole, be glad I never wrote a paper on commutative Banach algebras. As much as I love them, they're fairly abstract and obscure (it's not really a terribly active field these days).

Quote:

I know! A part of me can't believe I've leveled three characters up to the max in that game. Though I've played Diablo and Diablo II, I don't think I put near this much time into either.
