I found Mesmer to be the most ungainly of all the classes in regular PvE. Targets die so quickly that your illusions don't get a lot of uptime, and since you're fighting large groups of quickly dying creatures, you have to reset the illusions frequently. I still see it being awesome in PvP and against bosses, but for regular Renown Hearts, I found it a bit tedious.

I have to agree. I want to love the Mesmer, some of their effects are just awesome, the particles, the shattered mirrors look amazing. I just utterly suck at playing them in PVE it seems.

So, the headstart will officially begin on the 25th at the stroke of midnight, Pacific time. However it could be started up to three hours early, so plan to start hammering that login button for a few hours.

Midnight Pacific time means I'll be sleeping and waiting until I wake up . I'm in a rush but not 3 a.m. rush.

I'll be on ASAP, I want to grab my names.

Also, this is pretty neat: Felicia Day voices Zojja (the character I'm using as my avatar). I hadn't realized that while playing. All the more reason to roll Asura!

Or you know, less. Noticed an alarming number of female Asura moeblobs too, they're going to be a problem I just know it.

The trick with Mesmer in PvE seems to be using the greatsword as it puts out the most damage potential sans illusions.

It's still a toss-up for me for which class/race I want to start with. It seemed like I had prior plans every time they did a beta weekend or the stress test, so I would be lucky if I was able to play for an hour during each event. This last stress test I finally tried out the WvWvW and really enjoyed it.

From what I had a chance to play, I played a Norn Guardian the most. I wasn't sure if I would like it as every other MMO I've played, it's typically been a ranged/caster class. So far I've really liked what I've played to this point, plus the transformations at the end have my interest.

Other than that, I tried out an Elementalist, but didn't really get much of a chance to play it, but having the ability to switch elements depending on the play-style was pretty cool.

Still don't know what race I'd be thinking of, but I'm starting to lean towards Norn, Asura, or Sylvari

So are they still pretending the trinity doesn't exist while using pseudo-trinity mechanics?

Or have they finally either done proper, non-trinity based classes, or put in a proper fucking tank?

Based on my limited exposure to the classes, it seems most of them can be configured to do damage and heal, with a few being tank-ish.

Also I think I'm going to start with an Engineer. Not sure what race yet, though.

The biggest problem I had grouping in GW1 was that the mechanics were clearly still standard EQ aggro systems, yet while you could spec certain classes to be able to take tons of mob damage, no one had any decent aggro-holding abilities.

It made it a fucking nightmare to group.

That was actually one question I had with GW2. Having not run a dungeon or grouped much for PvE, I'm really curious how aggro and aggro management is going to work. From some of the videos I've been watching, a lot of it seems to have people being left up to their own devices and rotating in and out with the plate-wears, when possible, being in the front line. Not quitea zerg, but there are hints.

Just stayed up late finishing Ghosts of Ascalon. I kind of predicted the ending early on, but it was a decent story. I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to learn more about the setting, but it does do a very good job of informing you on the world and history. I'll start the second book tomorrow and try to finish it before the head start.

So guesting won't be available at launch. I was afraid of that when it wasn't in the beta weekends. Also, apparently guilds don't share influence and upgrades across servers (source). So server choice matters for rather more than just WvW.

Heh, so I wasn't the only one in rabid GW2 mode and ended up picking ghosts and reading it before launch?

Yeah, I plan on RPing so I wanted to understand the world and it's people better. I found one character particularly helpful because he is very similar to my 'main.'
