Oddly enough, this will be the first MMO were I play as a human character. I've only tried the human and Sylvari so far, though. It's too bad the humans have one of the more lame racials from what I can tell by reading, but I'll probably try each race with an alt.

Norn animal forms sound really cool, I'm sure I'll roll a plate wearer with that race for an alt.

You can go wherever you want, but you'll have to warp back to your area (at a minimal fee and minimal nuisance) for the personal story missions. I think. I haven't tried warping between starting areas yet, though.

My theory is that people like to project themselves into their fantasy setting in a relatable way, and humans are naturally the most relatable race. We like making awesome versions of ourselves, I think.

I've gone between starting areas - it's very easy. Portals from every capital to Lion's Arch, and you can also instantly teleport to "the Mists" (for PvP) from your hero panel, and that also has a portal to Lion's Arch.

Region limited. If I remember right, once you register a code in a given region that account is locked to the region.

It doesn't GeoIP locate.

Uh, briefly looking for info on their region scheme, I noticed this (from the official blog here):

When you log in to the game for the first time, you will have the opportunity to pick any available server, or home world. If you choose to select a home world that is in a different region from where you purchased your game, you will be logged out for a short period of time while your account is moved to your new region.

So I think you may not need to do anything more than both pick a home server in the same region.

OK, cool. I might check this out if I have the money. I've been eager to try it, and we've been looking for a game to play together. Though I may just stick with something free to play for now until the reviews shake out. Beta impressions are never that reliable. :P

I heard awhile back you'll be able change region anyway. That was awhile back though and things may have changed since then.

I really wish keybinds would stay, but they were wiped between BWE2 and BWE3 when characters were, so I suspect I'll have to set those up for a third time...

I thought I read something on the main page about reserving character names (not that I need to do that) but maybe this was a program for people that played GW1.
