So, I finally got around to downloading the MoP update and played around with the pet battle system this morning. It's kind of neat but I can see it getting boring for some.
Who all is coming back when MoP goes live? I'm trying to decide if it will be worth a switch to a CoG friendly server. I might just re-roll a Panda and start fresh on a new server when MoP goes live too. Depending on the situation, I might even go Alliance for once. Also, I still have a scroll for anyone else who needs one. (they are not bound to my server are they?) |

So I have an 80 mage on Garona. Do we still have a guild? What's the current status of this community in-game?

Got my scroll working finally; thanks Zecon. Leveling a Human Hunter, as I have not seen some of the Human/Alliance areas redone in Cataclysm.

No problem, glad it's working for you now.
I had problems sending it, so Blizzard must be having a massive influx of returning players for MoP.

Just throwing it out there again. I'm currently on Farstriders (Horde) and Elder'Thalas (alliance) if you want to add me to Real ID. Just PM me.

MoP's pre-expansion patch launches August 28, just two weeks away!
(though I've cancelled my sub in preparation for GW2 )

Given how great other MMOs are these days, Im constantly surprised there hasn't been a bigger drain from WoW. I guess for a lot of people its an investment thing. I said this earlier to a friend, but it just seems like a legacy MMO to me these days.

I think it's just that no other MMOs are trying anything new, and WoW is still the best example of the tried and tested formula.

Yeah, that's basically it. If you want what WoW does, you go there. They still do it bigger and better than anyone else.
I'm moving on to GW2, but that's with the concession that while I will enjoy GW2 more (beta time has proven this already), I know that WoW does appealing things that GW2 doesn't. Open world, raids, and... it's familiar? That's all I got. But yeah, WoW is still the best at what it does.

I'll be playing GW2, but keeping WoW. Figure I may as well keep it since GW2 is free.

I should probably actually get to 85 at some point, huh? I keep petering out in WotLK content... not even 80 yet.

Once you do hit 80, it goes pretty quickly. I enjoyed most of the Cata zones, except maybe Deepholm. Hyjal was super fun, I really enjoyed Uldum (lots of Indiana Jones references!), Twilight Highlands had a very epic feel to it. So, I'd suggest biting the bullet and getting yourself to 80, because it's much more fun after that point.

I'm getting that itch to return to WoW again. I've had two or three periods of really good raiding, where I've been in good, fun guilds with just the right balance of making progress with not being arseholes. I love that feeling of getting better as a team and beating, then mastering, each boss in turn. Damn you WoW, damn you!

I know I'll get MoP, only question that remains is should I be there for GW2 launch. I loved how new and interesting WoW felt when I started, when the world was full of people just exploring and figuring things out. Even though there's a lot of tweaks in MoP it's still like coming home after a long vacation (and this was probably the longest one I took yet, 2 months into Cata and I just wanted something different), when you get down to it, you know where everything is and how it works, maybe there was some work done in the kitchen, it's still what it is.
I was gonna skip GW2 and just re sub when the 5.x patch hits, but the closer GW2 is, the more curious I get. I almost got SWotor, but beta "talked" me out of it. I haven't tried GW2, but for a game with no subs, how bad can it be, and if it really does turn out to be underwhelming I can always take a break and come back later to check it out.
