Remember when I complained about the people who keep mistakenly giving out my e-mail address as their own? Well one of them screwed up again. This time he used my e-mail address as the contact e-mail for his daughter's school. I've started receiving messages intended for this guy regarding his daughter, as well as voice recordings of school announcements, etc.
Thanks to this guy's incompetence, I now know the name of his daughter, where she goes to school, and I can access her records. I haven't actually looked at her records, as I have no interest in doing so, but how stupid can a person be? Now I have to either keep deleting these e-mails or call the school district and tell them to take me off their list. -_- I rue the day that I decided to not use my full first name in my e-mail address. Last week I changed my g-mail password to something even more obscure and added 2-step verification linked to my phone just in case one of these idiots actually tries to log in to my account. Do they not realize that they are never receiving these messages that they've signed up for?

Yeah, I suppose you are right. What a pain in the butt.
I usually just send this stuff to the trash, over and over again, as for some reason marking it as spam never makes it go away for good. Of course I also use the unsubscribe option where available. The only time I had to call previously was when the guy used my e-mail address for his Verizon account, which was kind of a pain to explain to the Customer Rep, but thankfully I stopped receiving those e-mails. Now I need to nix the school e-mails as well as the family photos I get every week.

I've never been very anti-vegan, but man did this make me laugh. No wonder some people don't like them.
Here's the bit that got me. Quote:

Having morals different than yours does not explicitly make them hateful you know.

It's more the implications by putting non-vegans in a comparative with child beaters that made me laugh.
Saying you won't date another person because of their immoral choices sounds a bit dickish to me.

Reading that reminded me of a conversation I had with some friends about vegans. One of my friends is vegetarian and used to be vegan, her partner isn't either. They have some really great stories about going to some slightly crazy vegan events. Things like going to a meeting at a Tibetan restaurant. Apparently, traditional Tibetan food mostly revolves around meat dumplings, so vegan Tibetan food meant lots of completely plain dumplings. It happened quite regularly; rather than finding somewhere with good vegan food, or that could cook a decent vegan menu, they just booked somewhere and asked for things without meat or dairy products. Then they all smiled and pretended it was delicious.
Then there were the militant vegans with their poorly thought out plans to force veganism on everyone by stealing all of the farm animals and hiding them somewhere. |

There are a few who would happily kill all the farm animals if it meant that people couldn't eat them. Every group has its insane extremists.

I never force my vegan eating on anyone. Hell, my wife is a full-blown carnivore. In fact, 90% of the time she eats meat at home I cook it because I'm better at it than her. At our going away party in Chicago last year I was in charge of prepping and cutting the meat for hundreds of tacos.
Reading these stories one realizes that their tendency to be ideologues would manifest itself somehow, veganism is just what these particular people latched on to. BTW, anti-vegans are just as much of an annoying bunch of twats. ![]() -- Sent from a phone so please forgive any grammatical, spelling or factual errors.

Seriously, if you think some act is abhorrent, but do not believe people who commit it are abhorrent, what kind of a person are you?

Well, let's take the example of people who abuse children. I consider the people who commit it abhorrent as well as the act. I don't feel the same way about eating meat (it's too culturally ingrained, and hell, I do it too) but this guy apparently does.

I haven't had my coffee yet, but I think you two are actually in agreement.
Again: no coffee.

It's a pretty subtle distinction.
