I'm not sure on the server question. My daughters tried hopping on their account the other day and they only had one choice on the server browser. I've purchased Moria and Siege of Mirkwood and I could still get on the Firefoot server where everyone I know plays.
From what I can tell, you can level to 75 but only certain quests will show up for you unless you buy the quest packs. This is a good site that gives some idea of what you get: http://www.lotro.com/free.php?tier=details |

Doesn't seem to be a great deal lost for being a free player.
I'll give it a whirl once it's finished downloading.

I'd say you get an honest experience of the game, certainly enough to decide whether or not you want to spend anything on the game or not.

I'll be giving it a shot, too. Is there a server or whatever where Coggers can be found?

I really want to make a Hobbit called 'Frildo Laggins'
OK - What world do I pick? Screw it, I'll go with Laurelin, EN RP I guess.

You can also earn store points by completing some of the lore challenges or whatever they're called.

I really enjoyed LOTRO when I played it. Having said that with Guild Wars 2 coming out right away I don't really want to download LOTRO because I know I probably wouldn't even play it right now. Even though seeing this thread again kinda makes me want to.

I got bored after 30 minutes.
Downloading D&D online and Warhammer Online as well. Lets see if I can find one I like!

Whelp, DnD online doesn't link to your account if you have a LOTR:O account, so sod that.
WAR was actually the most fun, although I think my time of enjoying these games is long gone after 18 months of WoW, even a couple of hours into WAR, after the 10th 'kill/collect/return' quests I logged off and uninstalled them all. Plus WAR has a nasty 'everytime you level up PAY TO UPGRADE!!!!!!!!' popup, which doesn't bode well for TOR. I am assuming TOR is the same as all the other MMO's?

Getting back into things, will be on Firefoot with Aetrius (71 Lore-Master) and Arteris (20-something Warden). Say hello if you're on!

Man, I'm so angry with myself.
I got the Steam Summer Pack, but didn't realize that it also gave me presents which I could open. (and I failed to read the actual details on the Steam page). Anyways, long story short, bought the Steam pack for $15 (50% during the sale) got 1000 points and then bought a medallion that gives me +25% experience on every action. Then, last night, I suddenly realize I have these presents in my inventory (I think they unlocked when I left the tutorial area, but I didn't notice for a little bit)...anyways, one of the gifts is this bloody medallion that I spent 700 Turbine points on! Derp...I feel...so...stupid...I guess I still got 300 Points, 3 quests, and a nice fast-ish horse

Hah, that's unfortunate. Is it bad that I'm tempted to pre-order the next expansion pack just for the XP stone for levels 65-75?
For everyone, here's a plugin that I found vital: http://www.lotrointerface.com/downloads/info457-.html

Ooh...that does look like an interesting plugin. Considering the only reason I found my present yesterday was because I was trying to sort through my pack!

Aw man...entered a battle unprepared and my "undefeated" streak ends at level 16. I'm such a strangely sad panda at the moment
![]() Also, signed up for a year VIP...seems like a pretty good deal for me considering you get 500 Turbine points per month as well was rest XP which is good for me because I usually only play chunks every so often. Really loving the game again, though. Something about it really draws me in. Maybe I just like my Warden more than my Minstrel. I really need to figure out my keyboard and take advantage of all these macro keys for gambits. |

Warden is a ton of fun to play. I've got mine up to 23, if I remember right. We should play sometime, I've been distracted by WoW lately but that won't last. LOTRO is the game I keep coming back to.

So...I realized I had been stupid.
For the first 21 levels of my Warden's life, I didn't even clue in to 'traits' until I stumbled across a conversation on the LOTRO message boards. Jeesh...I had so many empty trait slots! I remember, now, doing this with my Minstrel, but that was so long ago. I blame the poor in-game help for not telling me what to do with Traits when I earned my first one as a Warden (or I just didn't read )

Hah!
The trait system is one of the things that really set this game apart, I think. There's a real purpose to achievements, and it's done in a way that makes good use of the setting.

Riders of Rohan is out. Not that I have a character that can take advantage of it, but it is being released today.
