I voted Hamill because I grew up watching The Animated Series and it has a very, very special place in my heart as the One True Batman.

That said, Heath Ledger pretty much did the impossible with his rendition of The Joker; I truly didn't believe going into that film that anyone could do that character justice in a live action film, and he proved me so very wrong. It's a fucking tragedy that we only got to see him play that character once, because he deserved a chance to show off that amount of talent again and again and again.

I went with Ledger, because I think if he was given the opportunity he could have been amazing. I think he would have been capable of being a much more light-hearted joker and very VERY funny, but it wasn't in the Nolan-verse and wasn't in the cards for him.

I think he had the best single performance and most potential, so I voted for him.

I went with Ledger as well, mainly because my knowledge of Hamils work doesn't go beyond the games. I would say they are easily the better 2 of the group, I don't think Hamil would work in live action, and Ledger was restricted to Nolans vision of what Batman is like, so they each have drawbacks, but are exceptional in their own ways.

This poll is fundamentally flawed--voice acting and "live" acting are two completely different beasts that are approached two completely different ways. As such, this poll is comparing apples to oranges with the only commonality being that they are both fruit.

Think of the subtlety of Ledger's Joker: the harrowed eyes, the licking of the lips, the occasional self-conscious pushing back of his hair...all this nuance would be impossible in a pure vo part. As such, vo actors have to take a more extreme approach to their interpretation, because extremity is the only tool they have to make their character unique. Had Ledger done a vo Joker it would have been a completely different beast. Similarly, if Hamill (who is a terrible live actor btw) would have had to "live" inside his character more he would have also given a different interpretation. Different circumstances call for different approaches.

A more accurate poll would have been: Which Director had a more accurate interpretation of the Joker?
