Doctor Who Series 7 (2012-13)

It's starting in just a few weeks. And here's the new trailer:

According to reports, we'll be getting five episodes this fall, then the Christmas special, then eight episodes in the winter/spring of 2013. No reliable word about the plans for the 50th anniversary later in 2013, though.

Ah, thanks. For some reason, I had assumed that the split season was going to make the Christmas special part of the normal run of 13. Corrected above.

Was there even anything NEW in that besides those tall robot things?

It seems like the well is running a little dry on this show lately.

I wouldn't read too much into that - it's a trailer, after all, and it's likely to lean heavily on things people will have an instant reaction to. Three of the five initial episodes don't seem to have any returning villains. (Well, unless you count dinosaurs, and it's been a good long while since the Myrka, the Skarasen, Invasion of the Dinosaurs, or the one in the Rani's TARDIS...)

We have an air date- Sept. 1 in the UK, US, and Canada.

And a new trailer, courtesy of BBC America:

Looks pretty damn good to me. This has been the longest drought since Doctor Who returned, so I'm very ready for some new episodes. It's a pity that BBCA isn't available in HD in my area...

Who the fuck did they get to voice over that advert? It's hilariously bad.

Unless I'm mistaken, that's Mark Sheppard (sp?), who played Canton in the previous series opener (as well as Romo Lamkin on Battlestar Galactica, Badger on Firefly, etc.). I agree, it's way too amped up for the purpose. As long as they don't do some sort of obnoxious US-only intro, I'll forgive the promo nonsense...

Oh I actually like that guy, I guess he was having an off day though, as it really doesn't suit the trailer.

Yeah, that was some bad voice acting. I too really enjoy that actor, so maybe he was just given bad direction. I need to finish watching the previous season, I lost interest fairly early on.

The last season was pretty dire, despite having one of my all time favourites (the Doctors wife).

I'm really hoping they've all but finished with the River Song arc, because she was a terrible Mary Sue character who went on far too long.

They have said there won't be any multi-episode arcs now.

Yeah, but it is clear she is still in it. I was kinda hoping when they move on from Amy and Rory they move on from River too.

I'm in the camp of why do we still have Amy, Rory, and River. Guess they need a few episodes to wrap that up though. They were just getting a little stale there last season. :/

You might want to spoiler-tag that- even if I'm pretty sure it's incorrect. Give people at least a day or two to get caught up...

I had to watch this in three-minute pieces thanks to a demanding toddler. I'll probably have more coherent thoughts about the episode when I've watched it in a more coherent way. I enjoyed the heck out of it, though.

A fun episode, albeit horribly predictable.

The whole Rory/Amy marriage issues seemed really out of place for a one episode story arc.

I've not seen too many of the Smith Who episodes but that one was very enjoyable. Usually I can predict the "twist" in a show but this one took me completely by suprise. I might have to go back and watch the Smith seasons to see how he truly stacks up against Tennent and Eccleston.

I guess I saw it coming since it's been used several times in previous episodes. Hence they getting a bit predictable.
