See. The thing about me and Paranormal Activity is that I was having an episode of my life that mirrored the movie way more than I would have liked and then I saw the movie and couldn't take it seriously. Sounds backwards, but it's hard to get into something that won't end when the credits roll. Torre knows what I am talking about.

Now, Saw I loved. Saw II was one of the biggest betrayals I ever felt in the movie theater. Spider-Man 3 levels of betrayal.

I guess I fall into one of those people that just finds these films laughable, and doesn't get how they could be considered scary at all.

I lost when she got pulled out the bed in the first film.

The second was awful, just fucking awful. I mean, watch it, there are scenes where they stand in the kitchen, and objects on the table, vanish, reappear, then vanish during the course of a conversation. This happens several times throughout the film. It was either suppose to be scary (which makes no sense) or just really poor film editing.

These movies seem successful enough since they're cheap enough to knock out, I just don't 'get' the scaryness in them at all, but then I've always found horror films to lack that effect on me.

The pacing, the lack of pay off, the boring characters and uninspired stories, I've just never been able to 'connect' with these films enough to buy into the horror.

I smell a Kickstarter campaign that would be well-funded.

All the activity pretty much led to nothing. There wasn't any progression to the overall story outside of the story for the movie itself. I was really hoping there would be. Reviewers seems to be really down on this movie, seeing it is at less than 30% on Rotton Tomatoes. I can't even decide whether I like this or Sinister more. Both seemed really average.

Well, what sucked was that the end was the same as all of the others. And you can always kind of see it coming that it is about time to wrap up. The guy that hung around Alex (Ben, I think?) was easily the best part of the movie, he was hilarious.

I think these movies are boring. I think part of my issue is I absolutely do not think ghosts are real. While lots of things in movies are not real, the PA movies go out of their way to exist in our world that I can't get immersed the same way I can in a movie that is more obviously placed in a fake world. I know there is a disconnect there, but I am having difficulty articulating it.

I think you want to say that Paranomal Activity series requires some sort of belife in the existence of ghosts. Which is a correct assessment.

Yeah, that seems about right. I mean I don't believe in Jedi either, but loved Star Wars.

Except I don't believe in ghosts but Paranormal Activity still scared me more than most other horror films.

some sort of belief also includes subconscious beliefs.

But I never implied my assessment was the end all, be all.

Or some people are more capable of suspending their disbelief and allowing themselves to be immersed in a particular work of fiction.

You can suspend your disbelief, but then it turns into 'Where's Waldo: The Movie'.

Ok. You didn't enjoy the movie. That doesn't mean that everyone who did is afraid of ghosts. Not every horror movie works for everyone.

I liked the first movie well enough, though it was a bit boring at times. I found the second to be very enjoyable. I haven't seen the third yet. I'll try to see it sometime soon, but these aren't movies that i watch in theaters.

You'll enjoy the third I think. It tops what the second gave you and gives you background on the two sisters and what happened that started the whole thing.

This is pretty much my sentiments on these films. I'm looking forward to seeing the 4th, but I don't know if I want to see it in theaters or not.

On the flipside, I was actively angry with how much of a waste the third film was. Genuinely nothing happened and then it has ten minutes of story at the end and you're done. Rarely do I say that something was an honest waste of time but I could have washed laundry by hand and it would have been time better spent than watching 3.

That is exactly what it means. It's a movie about scary ghosts, you were scared by the movie, I am pretty sure that means you are scared of ghosts. either fictional or supposedly real.

I am not quite sure why you're offended though.
