Favorite Fictional Games/Sports
What are your favorite fictional games/sports? Ones that were invented for use in a distinct canon, and may or may not have concrete rules. Like Quidditch from Harry Potter or Blitzball from Final Fantasy X. These can range from professional sports, to board and card games, to fake videogames. Even if it eventually became a real product, as long as it was initially fictional it counts.
I really enjoyed the depiction of Pro-Bending, a sport created for the world of Avatar: The Legend of Korra, especially after watching a detailed video from one of the creators explaining the rules (It's a bit long, as it was actually used as a guide for animators). It's a clever and grounded adaptation of the magical talents possessed by characters on the show, and I wish there had been more of it to watch. I'd love to see a pro-bending video game adaptation, and I think it could translate nicely. Last edited by Ink Asylum; 07-30-2012 at 02:11 PM. |

That reminds me. Fictional video games also count, as do card games, board games, etc. Even if they've been turned into real ones, as long as they started out fictional.

Someone has to say it.
The Battle Room Or alternately, I'd take the Final Exam "simulator".

There is only one that springs to mind.
HYPERBALL. You all suck for not mentioning it yet...pffft... My brother and I spent far too many hours clobbering each other on this game (would usually end in us actually punching each other). |

Back in middle school I actually learned to play Sabacc and made my own deck and played with friends. It's essentially Star Wars Blackjack (Han Solo won the Millennium Falcon from Lando in a Sabacc tournament).
It's not my favorite fictional game (that would probably the the Ender's Game Battle Room mentioned above) but it's one of the few I've played personally. |

Pretty much anything from Star Trek. The cool glow in the dark Raquetball and the phaser shooting gallery thing. Also I always wanted to see them play Pareses Squares, but I guess they never had the budget or time to put it in, even though it was referenced quite a bit.. Anbo-jyutsu looks kinda dumb, not interested. It like they were ripping off the Lightsaber scene from Star War and American Gladiators all in one.

I always forget that Whoopi Goldberg was on ST:TNG.
There was a game in the episode where Q gives Picard a chance to correct a mistake from his past. It was like billiards crossed with pinball. Dom-Jot. |

The only Star Trek game I remember was the multi-level chess game and it always fascinated me. Chess was already complex as is, so obviously only future people could play a version with several tiers.

The Grid games, easily. Since it was already mentioned though, I'll go with The Running Man.
