Oh, and regardless of how it turns out with the other (though I say, yeah, don't write her off - you never know the history at work, there), good luck with this OKCupid one.

It went very well. She had to go off to study, but we chatted in IM for like 3 and a half hours. She's funny, cute, and seems like she'd be a lot of fun. I offered to cook for her sometime.

She said she liked talking to me, and I said she should ring me any time she sees me online.

Before the week's out I'll definitely see if she wants to go get drinks and sing karaoke (she's a fan too) when I'm in Eugene this coming weekend.

It's only "just" money when you have it. When you're scraping by to pay the rent and keep the lights on... it's more than "just" money.

Linguist girl wrote me back! Apparently her computer crashed so her writing ability was diminished. I was all set to suggest a meet-up, but she beat me to the punch. She's taking a trip to California soon and I'm travelling myself later in the week, but we're gonna see if we can get together before our trips and if not, just after.

This is so true. I don't know how many times one of my friends who is employed full-time has made some remark about money that has annoyed me. No, I can't just buy a new window AC because the one I have now kind of sucks. I can't afford that! No, I cannot just buy a new outfit to hit the clubs this weekend. No, I do not want to go to a bar that charges 12+ dollars for a cocktail. I stressed out when my bike got a flat because I knew I would have to spend more money to get it fixed. I wouldn't have worried about that kind of thing nearly as much before I went back to school.

Really, ever since going back to school I have scraped by each month while managing to still eat pretty well (considering my budget) and have some semblance of a social life. I cannot afford lots of new clothes, gizmos, DVDs, new shoes, etc. Most of my friends understand this, but some of them act like I'm just being stubborn. It's frustrating, to say the least.

Krispy: I've already mentioned how I'm a dunce about linguistics - took a class for a week with a professor who is now her Master's, advisor - so I probably can't get away with busting out some knowledge.

Besides, conversation is my strong suit. I have all of literature to draw on plus a skill for patter both inherent and honed from years of professional application. Talking is something of a specialty of mine.

It was always initial contact that was a problem. That, and I'm just not sexually or romantically aggressive. I CAN be, but it's not always comfortable. I like to be aggressed upon.

That's as may be, but the problem for me is that most coffeehouses don't have a stellar selection of single malt scotch. And when I do go to the bar, it's with my friends, all of whom are attached, And terrible fucking wingmen.
