You're right. I'm sure I'm the only person on all of COG who hates football.

As long as those fucking Packers don't win.
It goes along the same with growing up in Green Bay (I just needed to fulfill the destiny set forth by Psykoboy2 here), lots of love for football, it's in our blood, it's how we grow up. I also have fun with the back and forth with fans of other teams - WHEN IT IS CIVIL. If you're gonna be a spouting ass that is just a jerk to be a jerk, then no interest in speaking to you at all. If you're a fun loving fan, then good times, have at fun discourse.

There's no excuse for hiding the truth in any sport, however. This was hiding truth, plain and simple, and it ruined lives. There will end up being more hell to pay across the board, and I'm happy about this. Hell, I'd be outraged if my hometown team did the same thing. Perspective is always important in these situations.

Also, those fucking Packers are going to win more. Sorry.

It's fun to yell at other fans, but be jovial about it. When they respond the same way, with the same positive energy, it's awesome.

And those fucking Packers won't even see Playoffs.

I honestly don't know what else NCAA can do, really. (And the options were apparently this or a four-year death penalty.) They're a glorified league office; they don't control the institutions themselves. Further punishments beyond the athletics program necessarily have to come from the state and federal governments/law enforcement.

While I do sympathize with the student body (I went to a Big 10 school) in missing out on a large part of of their school's social culture, the 'innocents' argument is tough to get behind, mostly because you can apply that to any crime.

How many rightfully imprisoned men are someone's father, son, brother, etc? If we start to judge punishments by some metric of how much the innocents are hurt, where does it start and end?

Also, it's not as dire to those students most directly affected if you've been following this. Kids on football scholarships are going to have those scholarships honored, whether they play or not. For those athletes that have NFL potential, they are free to transfer. There are no contracts involved here. That might sound harsh, but this is Penn State Football, up to now one of the greatest programs in existence. There will be schools lining up to take any of the top prospects that want to transfer.

Personally, I think they should just have cleaned house, whole cloth and let the kids play, but I also can't really argue that this punishment is too severe.

There is always going to be collateral damage when this sort of thing happens. I look at it similarly to someone who commits a crime that has a family. The culture at Penn State is fundamentally flawed(btw Penn state is not the only school with this problem). Honestly, I think that the NCAA should have added a 4 year death penalty in addition to all their other sanctions that apply concurrently. Destroying their football program for nearly a decade will end up being better for the school. I mean look what happened with the university of chicago, they got so wrapped up in their football program in the 30s they lost focus on their academics, so they voluntarily dismantled it. As a result, the university of chicago once again became one of the most well regarded schools for academics in the country.

Sandusky Sentenced in Penn State Sex Abuse Case

Quote:
Jerry Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, was sentenced Tuesday morning to 30 to 60 years in prison for sexually abusing boys, crimes that roiled the university community and shook one of major college football’s most prominent programs.

The ruling was handed down in Centre County Court by Judge John Cleland, and it essentially guaranteed that Sandusky, 68, would die in prison. The sentencing came roughly three and a half months after a jury found him guilty of 45 counts of child sexual abuse.

I'd like to think we'd grown above the Code of Hammurabi by now, but I guess not.

I apologize for nothing. I will derive pleasure from his suffering. He's a fucking monster, who mentally and physically scarred kids. 45 fucking counts of child abuse? I hope he gets castrated in the prison workshop with a woodburning tool.

45. Hope he dies. Hope it hurts. Hope he winds up in an unmarked grave.

When that's called justice, is it any wonder that men are made into monsters?

Shawshank taught me different. Unless he has a prison warden waiting to defend him, he will be raped on a regular basis.

Without the emotional response, I would say in such clear cases these people should be removed from the world, even if you want to do it in the most humane way possible.

Eh, being fine with the death of a childhood destroyer, a molester of the innocent is not criminal in my opinion. He has forfeited any empathy or care from me.

You can't reform them, so if it was legal I would be fine with the death penalty. Any crimes against children I am fine with severe physical punishment or death. Since our laws will never allow that for child rapists, I am fine with an unwritten prison code exacting justice instead.

I guess that's what it takes to unrape those children.
