Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC News: Releases, Delays & Minecraft

Valve today formally released the Left 4 Dead 2 Cold Stream DLC on the PC and Mac. Unfortunately Xbox 360 players will have to wait a week to play. They also have to pay 560 MSP/$7 for the DLC, while PC and Mac players get it for free. The DLC brings the new Cold Stream campaign to the game, along with updates of the four remaining Left 4 Dead 1 maps. All mutations are also available for play whenever you want.

Then there's a crossover with a small indie game you've probably never heard of. Valve is featuring a community mod called Deathcraft II, which puts the survivors into a very blocky situation. All eight survivors will also be coming to the 360 version of Minecraft as skins next month.

Finally Valve has announced that the Left 4 Dead 2 characters have been added to the Source Filmmaker toolset.

Maybe they've updated Deathcraft 2 since I played it, but when I did play it, it screwed up my game when I tried to play other campaigns. They wouldn't load and would just be stuck on a black screen. I think some assets also remained in the Minecraft style outside of the Minecraft mod.

I played the mod at my office during our lunch hour and others had similar issues until we deleted the vpk. So, like I said, maybe it's been fixed now (or it was isolated to just my group of players) but I didn't have a great technical experience with the mod. Just a cautionary tale if you're thinking of trying it out.

Hopefully they bring the characters to the PC version of Minecraft as well. It feels as if that version has taken a backseat to the Xbox version for some reason.

Also, hopefully I can run through Cold Stream at some point. Eventually I need to find someone to run through all of L4D2 with, preferably someone who hasn't played the game before.

Whaaaat. For one, the Xbox version is handled by a different developer from the PC and Pocket versions, being 4J Studios with not much effort from Mojang. And the Xbox version was just updated to the equivalent of Beta 1.7.3, which is what the original was at more than a year ago.

You're probably just noticing the Xbox version getting a lot of press because it's still new. And also because of Microsoft's money in marketing it.

I haven't played it before and I bought it on PC during the Steam sale! But I don't have a microphone or headset. I can if I use my 360 controller, but that would be heresy in a FPS on PC.

You can get a headset pretty cheap. I think I paid like $20 for mine. You should pick one up and then we can play sometime. Maybe convince Spigot and/or Purple Santa to join us.
