It is totally human nature in an artificial environment where permadeath doesn't exist. Sure, in real life, killing a person would be a horrible thing to do, but if they will just pop back to life in a few seconds? Add in the premise of free shit, and you better believe this is pure human nature. The only way to prevent this in the game is to provide artificial restrictions against killing, which just punishes people for playing the game violently if they want to.

And teamwork is fully feasible in Day Z. Just chat with some people in the thread that you know you can trust.

I'm wanting a game that rewards that. What is the benefit in DayZ to help oters? Someone to watch your back...well great...but most people grab a friend for that. What are the benefits for just killing like a sociopath? All their loot.

Of course people will choose that. Fuck, -I- would. If there were more benefits to a more natural system (even if you defend against attackers as a group) that I think might show TRUE human nature. What would you do given the choice? If both outcomes gave you some benefit (friends and trading partners with lower rates than other traders for example VS kill them for all their loot now one time) then you could really have something interesting.

I think, honestly...what I really want is choice. REAL choice where it affects the game in a way other than 'kill and loot'

EDIT: And that's just the thing, crazyD...you bring existing friends with you. But what about making new ones? No, fuck that, I want to loot their shit.

Like I said above, I'd just like more choice and either consequences for doing so (IE: fewer supplies because more mouths to feed) or better benefits for doing the 'right' thing in a lot of situations.

and no, I don't want them to force it either. That artificial holding hands shit is for the birds.

I'm interested to see what might pop up, though.

I don't know if outlets just want to be seen cuddling up to the latest gaming darling or what.
But they look to have the headstart to a commercial product with a tie-in to a movie. I think they will be fine.
But then again I love DayZ...so much so I made the thread

There are tons of benefits to playing as a team now. You do have a real choice, it's just that a lot of people have chosen a way you don't like, so you think they should be punished. You can make new friends in the game, and I have teamed up with randoms, but it's dangerous, just like it would be in a real zombie apocalypse. Better to stick with who you trust.

Not punished, but I think there should be more benefits to not shooting every mofo you see and stealing their stuff.

There are exactly the same benefits as there would be in a real zombie apocalypse: You might make a friend. Odds are you'll just end up getting killed for your shit, though.
