Finally played The Day Deathwing came.

Obviously, I picked the Blood Elf.

Greatest questline ever.

Fuck, I almost forgot about that quest. I fucking LOVED it.

EDIT: Also, thing about GW2 I like is no monthly fee. So I won't feel bad if I don't play it for periods of time, or worry about spending cash whenever I do play it.

I like to read the WoW Insider blog at Joystiq, especially The Queue feature where they respond to reader questions. Always some interesting stuff. In one comment thread, I saw this question about Panderan identity:

Quote:
Ron2
Is Pandaren their species, ethnicity, or nationality? Right now the groups mostly overlap, but there's probably a big cultural difference between somebody raised in Pandaria and somebody from the Wandering Isle.
I responded the only way a person who'd just spent two hours discussing the problem of Western interpretation of Asian religions could.

Quote:
RevWK @Ron2
Ooooh, man, that is a good question- especially from a sociological perspective! I personally think that the most absurd part of a lot of fantasy is not the magic or impossible creatures, but the contrived division and segregation of societies. I like to puzzle over such questions myself in that light.

To answer your question, I believe Panderan is the race, while Panderian (with the I) is a demonym, or term for Panderans of that "nationality." However, as any academic in the humanities will tell you, questions of nationality are eminently problematic- particularly in a fictional world where the French Revolution, the starting point for the concept of *nationalism*, does not exist.

Questions of identity in the real world are very difficult, as they're shaped by not just by a people, but in reaction to how others perceive that personal identity. For example, an American Jew from NYC might not ever think twice about his religious identity- until a rabbi from Tel Aviv tells him he's not Jewish in the slightest. Now he has two options- brush off that claim, or develop his own identity more fully as a counter. To push the example further: If a samurai encounters another swordsman with an unfamiliar style, he must develop his own style to block his challenger's unforeseen strikes. Now the samurai's style, while still being his own, includes a new move that did not previously exist. In both cases, the Jewish New Yorker and the samurai (or it could be the same guy, I don't judge) have developed themselves in response to an outside influence. Part of their own identity is a response to how others seem them- and that is the story of every single identity out there. But how do we translate that into Panderia? Do Panderans even conceive of the idea of ethnicity and nationality ("do they see color")?

Attempting to categorize the citizens of a parody of Eastern culture ("Eastern culture" itself being a problematic term as well, reeking strongly of Orientalism) using Western academic ideas is actually quite ironic- the very same thing happened when Europeans colonized parts of Africa and Asia. Requiring people neatly categorized for taxation and administration purposes, they created distinctions where they previously did not exist (see the story of the first British census in India).

So, Ron2, by asking about how to divide up the Panderan people into the appropriate category, you've actually introduced divisions to a race that was largely unified before. "What Panderan ethnicity am I? Why, I didn't know there were different Panderan ethnicities! I can tell you that I am the best Panderan ethnicity."

The world finally gets to explore the homeland of the Panderan, and what do you give them? Racism. You gave them racism, Ron2.
Also, I leveled a druid from 1-20 yesterday in about 4.5 hours. Not bad, but I think this guy also needs to get into Hawk's guild for the 10% bonus exp!

I want it for nefarious means. I love my Druid, especially for its flight form.

I want to take unsuspecting people up very high, drop them, then bird form and watch them plummet.

I'm not a good man.

Still, need to try and find someone so I can fast track a char or two. I've got a lot of 60s level chars, but would really like them to be 80. I HATE OUTLAND. HATE. IT. I can get through cata just fine, but outland...yeesh.

Outland is truly a horrible experience these days. If there's one thing that makes me quit a character, it's Outland. I blame that place for the failure of 3 different DKs. 60-70 needs a revamped experience or another XP boost.

Seems like the smart thing to do these days is stay in Azeroth as long as possible and then hit Outland when the quests go white. Outland is that shitty.

Speaking of which. Hawk, I friended you on another alt, Alebrew. I've done pally and druid healing, now I got this midget shaman on board. I dread the day he steps foot on HFP.

The last time I did Outland I just instanced my way to 68 then hit Northrend. It really is terrible, especially compared to everything else in the game. It needs its own Cataclysm style revamp.

Sadly, the math I've seen puts pure questing ahead of dungeoneering in terms of exp/hour. I just plug my nose and run through.

With RAF xp gains and a max level to run you you can hit 80 in about a day played time.

EDIT: But it really only works best when you do dungeons and the quests in those dungeons.

Is there some kind of WoW meme going around about hilariously bad tanks? Three in a fucking row.

Holy Paladin spec with a two-hander.

Angsty Fury Warrior.

Caster Druid.

After two trash mobs, the Druid said JUST KIDDING and switched to bear form. I am missing something? Is this what kids these days do for fun? And to think I missed healing (I do, actually.)
