Yea definitely. He's been on special assignment with us for the past couple of seasons so it's great that he's able to step up full time and help our defense. I'm going to miss Robinson though.

They seriously need to. Because if they don't they're hypocrites for penalizing Kovy's contract and then letting all these insane contracts get signed with no penalty like Crosby's for instance.

I feel bad for Nashville. They just went from cup contenders to lottery team in one season. I just don't see them matching that contract. What is going to happen if they don't match? Is Pekka gonna want a trade? The new CBA needs to seriously be structured to allow small market teams to contend with the larger markets. They need to fix terms like the NBA did. 5 years max.

The are seriously under the floor of the cap, so it's not necessarily unlikely that they'll match.

I haven't seen the structure of the offer sheet. Is it actually structured in a cap-circumventing way, with a lot of bullshit $1M years tacked onto the end?

Also, they did change the rules for those tail years after the Kovalchuk deal to mitigate them somewhat.

Ya but they are a small market team, and they aren't rich and they lose money continuously. They don't have unlimited funds like the Torontos, Philadelphias, Montreals and New Yorks of the league.

Nash was traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the New York Rangers for three players and a first-round draft pick. The All-Star, who first went to Columbus management in January and asked to be dealt, heads to Manhattan in exchange for forwards Brandon Dubinsky and Artem Anisimov along with defenceman Tim Erixon and a first-round draft pick in 2013.
man did CBJ get fucked in that deal

CBJ got fleeced. Howson is by far the worst GM in the NHL. Ugh.. I feel so bad for Columbus fans. What the hell are their ownership group doing?

Eh, I don't think it was that bad. None of those guys is Rick Nash, but they're getting a couple of good two-way players - Dubinsky in particular should help make up for getting fleeced in the Vermette trade at the deadline - and Erixon is a good D prospect. Having two or three guys who can step into an NHL lineup right now and not get killed isn't nothing when you're coming off a last-place finish: believe me, I know a thing or two about that. I don't think they got better today - putting Anisimov in more offensive situations might help him flourish, but he's not getting 30+ goals - but I'm not convinced they're that much worse, either, especially for down the road. Put another way, this was no "Pronger for Lupul, baby Smid, and magic beans."

Also worth pointing out, Rick Nash is signed for almost $8M until the Second Coming (okay, 2018, close enough). Right now, he's the best player in the deal, but I'd hate to still be sitting on that deal in his 33-year-old season, when he's unlikely to still be an $8M contributor. It's a win-now trade for the Rangers, but possibly a win-later for CBJ, especially since they were going nowhere now and Nash was going to be declining by the time they were good again, even if he hadn't requested a trade.

(I say all this with the caveat that, this being arguably Howson's best deal, there's every possibility he fucks up any hope it gives for the medium and long term. I have the same lack of faith in Howson that I do in Tambellini.)

Incidentally, for those who don't believe in the anti-Russian bias, I noticed that the media were falling all over themselves to talk up Nash's international experience (53 points in 54 games!) to make up for the fact that he'd only been to the playoffs once with a joke expansion team, whereas in 2010, the knock on Ilya Kovalchuk is that he "wasn't a winner," even though he'd played the same number of playoff games (4) with a similarly shit franchise (and, as of 2010, had 67 points in 79 international games, which is only slightly worse, and includes his 18-21 years, when he played behind the stars of the early 2000s, something Nash doesn't have weighing him down).

Just thought that was funny as I was reading Twitter today.

I've had some (or listened in on) conversations with very hockey oriented people including an agent and some players who are family friends. Everyone mentions that Kovalchuk is the best 'pure goalscorer' in the league at the moment. Extremely under-rated.

Predators are matching the Weber deal offered by the Flyers.

Looks like they want to keep him or at least attempt to try. The contract was for an insane 14 year 110 million dollar deal.
