Given the setup for the season, there's only one inevitable conclusion. The writers better make it satisfying. Making anything else work at this point will be a miracle.

Great episode.

Anybody who doesn't appreciate Mike should probably seek counseling. He is smart, cagey, cynical, and applies minimal effort for maximum effect. He is about as non-thug as you can get. He's a fixer, every leader has at least one in his entourage. The thugs in the operation handled low level stuff like keeping an eye on the cooks. Mike, on the other hand is a trusted lieutenant, a respected and valued associate that can be counted on to make decisions on his own when required, and good ones.

Better call Saul! I'll be calling him myself if they pull a Sopranos or Lost on us.

Sorry, not buying it. Mike's had exactly two scenes that separate him from Tyrus. He's a walking stereotype, with hardly a good line. He's the meatbag other characters get to deliver their juiciest quips to.

Gomez and Marie are more nuanced.

The thing I like most about Mike is that he always had this look on his face when dealing with Jesse or Walt that just reeks of 'these fuckin' amateurs.'

The fact that now he has to deal with them as partners/peers just pisses him off.

Walt claims that it is his 52nd birthday in the opening. His 50th birthday is seen in the show's first episode, and at the end of season 4, it has been approximately 1 year since the show started.

That flash forward is a whole year in the future.
