I think it was an achievement, too.

I heard the same complaints levelled against Mirrors Edge ( I haven't played ), as those levelled against Deus Ex.

95% free form awesome gaming, with 5% gunplay forced on you that (for some) completely ruined the experience. If it was anything like the stupid "boss fights" in Deus, I completely understand the resentment.

I don't get the boss fight hate. They were easy at least.

SOunds like the ship near the end of the game. That was a total pain in the arse to make it through guns-free.

I think in my case, it was that 75% of the reason to not use guns was because it would be playing against the spirit of the character and 25% because I wanted the cheevo

By the time you get into some spots where using a gun would make an absurdly annoying section merely a nuisance, you're also far enough into the game that you don't want to throw away the achievement with only a few levels left.

If I ever get around to playing it on the computer (my initial foray was on the 360), I might end up using a gun once or twice and basically justifying it by saying that I had no other choice. But I wouldn't force myself not to shoot anything after having done it once.

It is similar. I hadn't thought of the two games like that, but in both cases you spend the majority of the game honing a particular set of skills and then you are put into situations where those skills are at best adequate, at worst completely useless.

In Deus Ex you could at least cheese your way through a few of the boss fights (though the one where you lose most of your augs and weapons sucked total ass). In ME, esp. if you were trying to get the achievement, you had no option but to basically put your head down and try to bull through the annoying bits.

New dailies and a couple new flash deals are up.

Dear Esther: It might not be much of a game, but $2.49 for an interactive experience sounds about right.

Fable III is a flash deal, but why is a game that came out over a year ago on PC and nearly two years ago on Xbox still normally priced at $49.99? That sale price should be much lower.

Fable3 has me on the edge... I have a feeling I wont actually play it, so I am holding off at the moment. The 75% rating doesn't really sway me either way either. What does everyone say re F3? WOrth it?

OH, btw, for those hoping for F3ear, it's part of the Fear bundle, or 5$ on its own. I am pulling the trigger on that one.

Oooh. I want Dear Esther.

I'm just not sure if I've the stomach for it.

The original mod was REALLY creepy.

Also, Fable III is hilarious in its badness. The last gasp of Molyneux's total descent into madness.

I picked up Dear Esther since it's been in my wishlist for a while. I now have $2.55 left in my wallet!

It looks to me like Myst with even less of a game!

Don't think I can handle that.

Although the front page lists Assassin's Creed for 66% off, they're talking about Revelations or the full AC pack. The individual versions of AC:1 ($5), AC:2 ($5), and AC:B ($7.50) are 75% off.

I have never been as disappointed in a video game as I was in Fable 3. They clearly had no idea what people liked about the previous two.

It's a purely explorative experience, and a very, very good one.

I just have a weakness against first person creepitude, of which the mod had in spades and this has surely more.

It is more than it appears, and worth the $2.50 I think, but probably not more than that unless you're a GameSetWatch reader or something.

I'm not sure anyone who worked on Fable III even understands what a "game" is.

It's also objectively the worst game in the franchise by far, a franchise many people believed to be mediocre to begin with. I happily traded that stinker away very soon after I bought/beat it.

I wrote a bit about Dear Esther when I played it back in March.

I liked it a whole lot. For the price I think it's a no-brainer.

Anyone want to throw out their opinion on Age of Empires 3? I haven't bothered with an RTS in years and I'm curious how the franchise has stood up over time.

Dear Esther really resonated with me. It's absolutely gorgeous and I was enthralled with it from start to finish, esp. once I stopped trying to play it like a 'game' game and just wandered about, soaking up the atmosphere.

It really hits its stride when you go underground. Then the graphical polish they gave it really stands out. It's also why I'm pretty stoked that they're working on Amnesia: A Machine For Pigs.

I actually liked it the most of the lot. Fable 1 had promise but fell far short of the absurdly high mark that was set for it. Fable 2 was nice but just kind of happened. I didn't care for it that much. I won't say that Fable 3 was fantastic (and the endgame stuff is kind of silly with the way it works) but I was interested in it from beginning to the silly, silly end. I think I even did most of the quests and such, which I can't say for the first two.

But that's just me

While Lionhead may know what a game is, they certainly don't know what a decent menu/inventory/questlog is.
